James L Coke Coos County Native Dies in Hawaii
James L Coke 82 a Sitkum native died in Hawaii Monday of last week. Born August 31 1874 he practiced law in Coos Bay before moving to Hawaii in 1889 becoming the first lawyer admitted to the bar there after territorial status. He served as judge and chief justice of Hawaii territory and helped organize its first Rotary club. Survived by his wife nephew Portland attorney John Coune and niece Virginia Coke Corvallis.

Mrs W D Major of Eastside won the Queen of Coos County title at the annual fair bread baking contest by exhibiting the best loaf among 112 entries.
