Winners Named in 4-H Club Judging Tour
Arago Dairy 4-H team led by Ken Stevens Clyde Lille and Bob Bondell captured high point honors with 2490 points in the county livestock judging tour Aug 7 8. Coos River Dairy and Fourmile Sheep clubs tied for second at 2370 points. Riverton Dairy club members took fourth with 2220 and Pandon Dairy Club claimed fifth at 2145. Kenneth Stevens was top individual with 878 points, Roger Barnes second, Clyde Lille third, Opal McBurney fourth, and a five-way tie for sixth at 755.

Lockout Station At Hanging Rock To Be Built
The United States Forest reports a 40 foot lookout tower and lockout station will be built at Hanging Rock in the Mule Creek district under ranger supervision. Erie Cornelius Newhouse known as Andy Newhouse died at 9:30 PM Friday August 11 1939 in Broadbent after a heart attack. Born January 23 1877 in Dromrup Holland he led a long career from cheesemaker apprentice to Broadbent Cheese owner. Survived by Isabelle his widow three sons Cornelius Nell Henry Andrew John and a daughter Winnie Ruth Harry plus siblings and five Oregon grandchildren. At last week’s Coos County Fair board meeting preparations were set for the fall event at Myrtle Point’s Myrtle Tstat from Sept 12 to 16. The high schools provide bands for races and dances, with Esteé and Ross supplying three nights of music at the Orks pavilion. A jitterbug contest Thursday offers 4 dollars cash second prize two dance tickets and first prize totals. The fair promises horses exhibits entertainment and airplanes, marking 20 years since such an air feature appeared.
