School board reviews draft handbooks and new fees

Principals Tom Roe and Ray Hajduk presented Yough drafts of teacher and student handbooks at Monday's meeting. Major changes include a new start time and adjusted fees at Myrtle Crest and Kirtle Crest, with attendance rules and supervisor rotations outlined, plus staff appointments and a district tour planned.

School district plans student assignments at Myrtle Point

The Myrtle Point district outlines transfers to balance class loads and reduce bus time. Fourth to sixth graders move to Bridge School when needed, with preference given to student choice unless overloading occurs. Bridge and Arago will run combined classes. Myrtle Crest hosts upper grades with multiple fifth and seventh classes.

Coos County Receives Share of O and C Lands Funds

Coos County is among eighteen western Oregon counties sharing 49.3 million dollars from federal O and C Railroad lands revenue. E. J. Petersen of the Bureau of Land Management said the final FY payments, total 423 million nationwide, are distributed for forest and resource management. Coos County’s portion amounts to 2,911,529.65.

Top cowboys head to Myrtle Point for the Cvos County Fair rodeo August 15 16 the big annual PRCA sanctioned event. Entries run 35 to 30 a tan with a 1850 purse plus entry fees spectators see bareback saddle bronc bull riding calf roping steer wrestling and team roping nightly and Saturday afternoon.

Myrtle Crest School Sets New Student Registration

Myrtle Point High School FFA placed fourth in Livestock among 17 teams at the Douglas County Fair. In livestock judging Matt Schneider and Stanley Stewart finished high among about 160 members. dairy judging saw Dan Gibbs place fifth in a field of 100 entries.

French exchange student arrives for first American week

Anne Marie Boain, a French girl, starts a two to three month stay with the Lloyd Bast family in Lee Valley after arriving in August. Her luggage lagged behind in Eugene due to travel mishaps from Paris via New York and San Francisco. Dr. Peter Wolfe retrieved the bag later that week as Anne Marie began adjusting to life in town and planning to visit local sites for meals and activities.
