The executive committee of Housewives For 42 voted to delay pushing state Highway 42 spending until the federal 60 percent matching funds are available. The $4 million from the legislature would only patch the road. the $6 million federal share would finish the project. Members include Mrs Elden Brodie and Mrs Paul Hammes among others. the group aligns with Coos County officials awaiting federal aid. Governor Hatfield and state lawmakers are expected in Myrtle Point for the Coos County fair to aid completion.
Ada Thommen, awards chair, urged entrants to join the sixth annual baked bread contest at the Coos County Fair. A 200 man effort fights a Banner Creek blaze that has burned between 1000 and 1500 acres of green timber. Crews from Cees Bay and Bawden, plus two state bulldozer outfits, push to contain the fire with hopes of control by Tuesday evening.
Coos County Women’s Christian Temperance Union will hold its annual convention at the Boy Scout picnic grounds in Myrtle Point on Friday August 14. A potluck lunch and dessert ice creams are furnished. A bronz medal contest by the Loyal Temperance Legion, officer elections, and yearly reports will be given. Time 1030 to 330 p.m. Bring a friend.
