Fire destroys Jengins lodge near Illahe Oregon

Agness Oregon August 3 fire completely destroyed the Jengins lodge near Illahe Sunday morning. It is the second blaze at this lodge within a week. The Bill Fitzstevens family had left their quarters after recovering from a previous fire Friday. A firebug is suspected as four destructive fires have hit the area in recent weeks. Officers investigate.

Soldier of the Month Richard Roush Returns Home

Richard Roush, now a Sgt, was chosen as Soldier of the Month from 7 000 candidates after tests and an award at Fort Gordon Georgia. He and wife arrived from the east to Myrtle Point to live. she will teach at Myrtle Crest school and he will work with Roush's Service & Parts with his father and brother Bill. They traveled via Washington D C and Yellowstone National Park on the return.

Rose Warner Wins Poland Scholarship Representation by Quakers

Rose Warner daughter of Mr and Mrs Ellis Warner Oakland has been chosen by a Quaker group to represent at an international seminar in Cracow Poland. She has worked in Europe since last fall for Service Civil International and recently with the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund. A University of Oregon and Boston University graduate she is a Myrtle Point high school alumna with ties to the area. Before Paris she toured England and spent months in Switzerland with SCI.
