In the 1930s the Arch Ledge mine on the Sixes River near Dover Park drew attention after rich gold bearing float was found. The Green accident during blasting dampened efforts, a tunnel reached shallow depths, later rebuilt attempts failed to locate the vein, and the priority remained a rumored bonanza with high grade ore found near the old tunnel site.

About 50 Democrats from Coos county gathered at the Tedsen grove in Norway for a Monday evening Young Democrats picnic hosted by Mr and Mrs Herman Detlefsen and Herman Tedsen. Speakers included Garrett from Hawaii comparing Diesent era conditions with those under the prior administration. New members Roy Robison and George Gasner were introduced, and butterfat prices cited as rising from 18 to 47 cents per pound since 1932. A Florence trip caravan to attend the statewide Young Democrats picnic was suggested.

About 75 West Coast telephone company employees and families attended the annual picnic Sunday in the Mc Closkey grove at Norway. Afternoon games included baseball and other outdoor sports. The company provided free watermelon ice cream and coffee to attendees.
