About 68 members of the oeder family attended the second Schroeder reunion at the James Watson home in Coquille on Sunday. Plans were made to hold the gathering on the first Sunday each August going forward with many relatives from Arago, Coquille, Denmark, Bandon, Norway, Myrtle Point and nearby areas attending.
About 400 Coos county students earned Book League reading certificates, with 118 from Lincoln Coquille and others from Millington Fairview McKinley Powers Coos River Joran Creek Norway Bay Allegany Gaylord Hauser Valley View Sitkum Coaledo and Pheasant Hill. Gold Seal awards went to Fairview McKinley Fioras Creek and Coaledo.
Jessie Francia Young, 71, was arrested Wednesday by Officer Bert Pearson and State Police J Eric Tucker for using a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent. He received 10 days in jail and a $75 fine plus costs, currently serving in the county jail. Wilburn Cecil Davis, arrested Thursday by State Police P B Land, faced a $10 fine plus costs for operating a truck without a PUC permit.
Otto W Lindquist 42, longtime Myrtle Point resident, was found dead in a chair Monday about 1 pm by A L Volkmar and Ebola Volkmar. Lindquist had been ill for weeks and leaves daughter Mrs Alice Poulette of Newberg. Funeral at Church of Christ Myrtle Point Thursday at 2 pm with burial at Norway Queery.
At a Monday city council meeting in city hall the 1836 limit of seven beer licenses was repealed and the council recommended issuing a beer license to Don Nelson. Mayor Kring and councilmen Breuer Barker Hermann and Sum erlin attended.
Whitey Leeper led men at Guy's Bowling Alley last week with a 244 high score earning the Sunday blanket. Sutphin captured lamp honors for the second time with a 17 score.
About 55 family members gathered Sunday at the Mc Closkey grove in Norway. Attending were numerous relatives from Gold Beach, Port Orford, Reedsport, Marshfield, Coquille, Broadbent, Powers, Langlois, Gravelford, Myrtle Point, Dunsmuir California, Cushman, and other nearby towns.
A grass fire started by workers along the railroad tracks near Motney Monday afternoon spread 52 feet toward a hay stack before the wind carried flames. The fire department arrived and found the blaze under control with no damage.
Fourteen Coos and Curry county 4-H livestock club members plus leaders and parents toured farms July 27 28 judging Duroc Jersey hogs Romney sheep Hereford cattle and dairy cattle. Demonstrations in testing milk for sediment and bacteria were shown at Langlois Star Cheese and two club members demonstrated dairy show ring fitting.
About 20 members attended a Tuesday special meeting in Myrtle Point where John Nielson of Bandon spoke on Coquille river flood control. The group also discussed one day mail service from Powers to Quahe and extended an invitation to hold an inkey camp on Tuesday, August 18, inviting women and men from Myrtle Point Cognille and Bandon.
Members of the Townsend club present a Friday evening entertainment August 7 at Townsend hall. The program features singing acrobatic stunt tap dancing monologues and skits with a nominal admission and lunch served after the show.

The Presbyterian church Vacation Bible School ends Friday morning after two weeks of weekday sessions. Average attendance has been over eighty. Friday at 8 p m children will present a closing program.
A project conducted jointly with county and state club leaders includes 75 009 tonsil and embraces 30 subjects. Winners advance to a national contest and a wide scope of training leads to gold medal recognition in the 4H program.
At about 2 a m last Thursday a fire of unknown origin destroyed the McKinley house and its furnishings while occupant John Sturm narrowly escaped. Mrs Sturm, who had lived there since buying the Lyman King ranch, assisted in saving belongings and suffered a badly wrenched shoulder. Her husband arrived from California but they have no plans to rebuild or relocate yet.
Six Home Economics Extension units will be organized in Coos county with meetings starting Wednesday August 12. Miss Jessie Palmite will lead sessions in six communities while George Jenkins notes dates may shift as local requests guide locations. All county women are invited to attend at Gaylord North Bay Catching Inlet Fairview Bandon and other sites with times listed in the notice.
