Cannery Set to Open Early Next Week
Armeld Hildebrandt director at a petel and instruster of youth announced the union high school community cannery will operate next Saturday. Hildebrandt, in Klamath Falls for vocational conferences, reported about 250 cans of fruits and vegetables were processed on opening day, about one quarter of the cannery capacity. Ted Kirsch of Sun Valley Bulb Farms accompanied Hildebrandt at the event. Myrtle Point Wayford High School was also noted in the visit.

Contracts Awarded For Highway 101
State highway department awarded contracts for the Coos Bay section to build a permanent four lane freeway with new Manningslough and Beaver Slough bridges and 2.8 miles of grading between Delmar and Coaledo for 872 608 dollars plus two miles of grading and paving on the Coaledo Chrome plant coast highway for 407 468 dollars and Mantings Slough bridge for 24 060 dollars. Tom Lillebo of Reedeport received the Beaver Slough bridge bid at 155 000 dollars. Work to begin this summer targets substantial completion by end of 1949.
