Grounds are being readied under Perry Roper with several workers to host the fair on September 4 5 and 6. Wallace B Doment says adequate seating will be provided and an abbreviated premium list will be issued next week. The emphasis is on food production and conservation, with a carnival dances and eating places for guests.
State agriculture director E L Peterson says Oregon faces a 45 000 ton corn shortfall reducing 20 percent of livestock feed. With corn locked in the belt for hogs and prices unfavourable dairymen and poultrymen seek substitutes, risking heavy liquidation of dairy and egg supplies and broader shortages amid absent federal food policy. Local notices detail social visits and a ranch purchase by E E Basey near Bridge, plus a vacation note for Flentge Perkins on Myrtle Creek.
Myrtle Point three schools will begin the fall term on Monday September 13 with nearly all teaching positions filled. The Arago Consolidated Schools will send high school pupils to Myrtle Point on a tuition basis per capita cost. Last year Union High district cost was 160 dollars per pupil. Clarence Mullen and LP Linn spoke on arrangements and per pupil costs.
The Myrtle Point and southern Coos county service honor roll is issued again with additions and corrections to July’s list. Missing records for Belective ce office at Coquille and current addresses for some servicemen remain unavailable. D N Gould and M G Arnold from Gaylord traveled Friday to Portland to buy two Romney rams from C M Bishop. They plan to add them to their Romney flock. Gould operates a 500 head Romney ranch in Humboldt County California and partners with Arnold on a large South Fork California operation totaling about 800 Romney sheep. They emphasize pure bred stock with strains from England and New Zealand, asserting Romney sheep suit local climate and forage.
Government calls for old beeswax for war needs with payment at favorable rates. Beekeepers and dealers are urged to collect old hives and wax sources, with cash offers of 41.5 cents per pound. Hunters are reminded of late summer deer and antelope drawing dates and associated fees.

Earle Osborne among four Oregon pilots training on B 24 Liberators. Gerald Wayne Woodward transferred from Reno to Santa Ana Army Air Base. Corp James Hatcher serving in Australia with a bombing squadron. Hometime notes include H C Van Alstein family awaiting return of son and daughter from Corpus Christi and Portland. Coxswain Gene Reed leaves for San Francisco to rejoin supply ship. Richard Pointer moves to Camp Barkley Texas for army medical corps training. Robert Belloni receives second lieutenant commission at Camp Barkley and proceeds to Camp Elbeilt.
The list names over 50 men ordered to report for induction on Monday Aug 9 at the Selective Service in Coquille. They were sent to Portland for final examinations and potential assignment to service classification centers. Names include Robert H Cotton Earl R Butler Jerk de Bade Joe T Caffey David Watts Marvin Barkley Richard Warner and many others across Myrtle Point Coquille Bandon Marshfield Reedsport and more with addresses in Oregon and beyond.
Mrs. Russell Dement in this city learned her husband was sent to somewhere in the South Pacific after she had just returned from Pittsburg California where Russell had been stationed. Gerald DeWayne Snyder, son of Mr and Mrs Herbert Snyder of Myrtle Point, trains at Farragut Idaho naval station. Curtis Matthew of Lovers writes he had dinner in Honolulu with Mr and Mrs G M Goodwin of Powers and a duty-bound friend. Pvt. Robert R. Peel, son of Mrs L L A LaFlamme, moved from Washington DC to New York College for training and study completion.
A portable rescue machine funded by the Oreren Woman's Ambulance Corps and local groups arrives this week. Emerson Company instructors train OWAC and fire department staff to use the $450 device on fire trucks for drowning smoke or gas emergencies. Oxygen tanks will be secured through the Mast hospital for use with infants and adults.
County war finance chair C Sanemons urges every household to plan monthly war bond investments after reviewing income and expenses. He stresses sustained purchases through July and August as stamps accumulate toward victory.
Governor Earl Snell designates Quinine Week urging Oregonians to check medicine chests for quinine and deliver it to neighborhood druggists on Aug 6. The state police will collect donations from 200 stores to ship to the National Quinine Pool in Washington DC. Oregon stores have already contributed over 564,762 grains.
