Funeral services were held at Schree- Prd Funeral Chapel in Myrtle Point for Mrs Maude Metzger 57 of Remote who died Tuesday at Mast hospital Rev T J Pryor of the Methodist church officiated Interment was in Norway cemetery She was born February 7 1886 at Rock Plem Wisconsin and moved to Oregon in 1937 with her husband Roy Metzger They lived on a Sandy Creek farm near Remote since 1939 Survivors include her husband three sons and three sons in service Eugene V Joe R and Lynn L in England and Africa and Wayne W Nel L and Vern Enters in Remote Red Cross service Fred G Scherer of Marshfield retires from the U S Employment Service and plans to train in Washington DC for an administrative post in the Red Cross He has served in Russia during World War I and was a former Presbyterian minister in Oregon.

Rex the Police Dog Joins Army Service on Honor Roll
Rex, a German police dog trained by Marshal Bert Pearson, has been shipped to Portland for US Army enlistment. The two and a half year old dog stands 26 inches high and weighs 60 pounds, trained at a coast guard station as part of Dogs for Defense.

Accident at Lake Fatal to Woman
Renate Endicott of Myrtle Point drowned at Silteous Lake on the coast highway between Reidsport and Florence. The eight inch boom on the sailboat knocked her overboard as rigging failed. she did not survive despite life preserver and surface return. Search by coast guard and state police continues.

Coquille Woman Killed By Truck
Mrs W Smith 48 was killed Wednesday afternoon when struck by a logging truck near Coquille. Gerald Lillie 26 of Eugene operated the vehicle. Mrs Smith, a post office employee, was on her mail route. Efforts to locate her body by coast guard and divers continued after the accident near a lake island in about 18 feet of water. The state police took over the search late Tuesday night and Wednesday. The husband and friends aided in the search and boat recovery attempts.
