Thursday August 15 is the final day to file applications for tenant farm loans in Coos County. Norman Fletcher, county Farm Security supervisor in Coquille, says blanks remain for tenant farmers and farm laborers. County interest is wide with four to six loans expected. the county tenant purchase committee will review applications and farms for ownership. Funds may be available next fiscal year starting July 1 1941 to make additional loans county-wide.
Coos county, one of 30 in Oregon, reports 40.81 percent of its 1940 property taxes collected by May 1, totaling 666 228 dollars of 1 337 397 dollars levied. Delinquent taxes prior to 1930 stood at 3 017 603 dollars. delinquent payments reached 102 194 dollars by May 1, about 2.38 percent of the backlog. Other counties like Washington and Linn led in cleanup.
Visiting friends, Mrs Claire Keltner and infant son, former Myrtle Point resident Elda Aasen, will recall Formier as a county athlete from his high school days. He graduated in 1933 and from Oregon State College in 1930. He has taught six years at Kneppa Swenson High near Astoria and has now been advanced to principal.
A Wednesday 12 30 p m blaze on the roof above a stock room at the rear of the Myrtlewood bakery caused a sizable roof hole and water damage to stock below. Origin uncertain though a spark on the roof is suspected as a cause. Myrtle Point volunteers arrived quickly and extinguished the fire as onlookers gathered.
Giana Johneon daughter of Mr and Mrs George Johnson of Coquille became the bride of Lynn Frederick Perrott son of Mrs Glenn Neldeigh of this city. Attending the bride was her sister Miss Maxine Johnson in blue. Best man was the bridegroom's brother Craig Perrott. A reception followed and the couple plan a wedding trip to the Oregon caves and along the coast with home in Coquille.
Local Coquille Valley members traveled to Marshfield for the Southwestern Oregon golf championship. Harold McDaniels of North Bend captured both low gross with 72 and low net. Ray Hopp of Marshfield won the long drive contest. Next week Roseburg travels to Norway for the final Inter City tournament of the season with Coquille Valley.

About 50 people from Myrtle Point Lions club and delegations from Gaylorg and Reenfivant attended a Powers banquet at the Fellowship subhouse. Oregon State Highway plans were discussed with Coos County Commissioner R H Lawhorn offering county support for the Hoffman bridge to Powers road project.
The Herald reports a hole-in-one on No. 9 at Norway course by H J Pete Baers as part of a golf event with the Dodo club. Other hole in one previews occurred on No. 1 and No. 2, distances 120 yards and 206 yards, with Dodo members named. The ig Ladies Aid held a cooking sale and planned meetings at Twig Oaks and Mrs Linnies OOH Friday.
Lynne Black of the Oregon State Unemployment Service resumes Wednesday talks at Myrtle Point City Hall. About 12 claimants in the area are reporting for unemployment aid as the office acts as a clearing agency for National Defense jobs. Applicants who can qualify for skilled mechanical work and can relocate are urged to keep registrations active whether employed or not.
In Cool County SUCC field representative C. M. Johns of the State Unemployment office spent the week in and around Banden. He checked payroll reports and records in industries employing four or more workers to review unemployment data.
Henry Schroeder declares proof for a balanced count as guests gather at a Sunday meeting. D F Dean of Portland attends, recalling old ties with Coquille and river outings with Schroeder. Mrs Schroeder and daughter Nita, the Lairds from Honolulu, and Rev Couden join a hearty picnic and horseshoe games at the event.
Dr H S Davis of Washington DC leads a fresh water fish study in Oregon on hatcheries cultivation management and stream surveys assisted by Dr P R Needham of Stanford. The project includes visiting hatcheries and advising the Oregon State Game Commission on improvements. A biological station is established at the old Clackamas hatchery with Meed Nielsen in charge.

The Coos County Firemen’s Association will adjourn from the Myrtle Point city hall after the regular meeting on Friday August 16 at 8 p m to the Myrtle Grange hall for a Fire Education program in Rural Districts. Representatives from rate fire offices in Salem will speak on county organizations with demonstrations and talks during the evening. Public is invited and asked to bring chairs if able.
