Oden Proposes Building Renewal for Roland Bowers Site

Charles Oden, owner of Peat's Melody shop, asks the city council to extend a renewal agreement if he purchases the Roland Bowers building, which also houses Bowers Barbershop and the Melody shop’s bakery. The council indicated it would apply the same terms to the purchase.

Firemen Raise Fair Banners For Coos County Fair

Coos County fair banners fly along the highway Aug 11–15. Fire department put up the banners at the request of Fire Chief Mitch Myers during a chamber of commerce meeting. Merchants will offer Coupon Days and coupons distributed at the fair parade. An Air Force marching group from North Bend will carry the Colors in the parade. Les Simons forms two parade bands, practice at the high school. GP train tour to Powers eyed for next year with Myrtle Point promotion. Rev and Mrs George Williams back in Myrtle Point after a 9,000 mile tour. Williams to pastor and chaplain role at elder citizens home. Williams and wife attended Ocean Grove service. Williams will be chaplain and staff at the Church of The Brethren home. Safeway employees return to work after negotiations. Bucking contest grounds may be watered for the truck driving elimination. Thefts reported in Coquille over weekend. two at Episcopal Church and two elsewhere. Gail Smith, 9th grade English teacher, received a Master’s degree from the University of Oregon.

Blood donation drive nets 47 pints as donors assist

Donors at a Bloodmobile on August 2 contributed 47 pints with 60 attending and 13 declined. Harold Shephard will have open heart surgery in Portland within a month, supported by 24 pints. Curtis Beckham leads with Har old Walton assisting. Rainbow Girls Becky Noyes organized calls. Mrs Bert Gaenor chaired the contest. Jim King accepts five day visit to the Naval Academy.

Myrtle Point District Names New Teachers for Various Schools

The Myrtle Point school district announced the hiring of new teachers. Settling positions include Antoinette Agerter for high school English, Cleo Albertson at Myrtle Crest, Alice Claiborne for 2nd and 3rd grades at Arags, Kenneth and Barbara Holland at Bridge, and Orward Hoye and Douglas Muck in high school physical education. Rose Marie Jackson will teach atresiation staff roles noted, with others in education and remediation. some contracts still pending final acceptance.
