The city council discussed acquiring a four acre natural park in the View Street area with possible expansion to 10 to 16 more acres and federal matching funds. The plan aims to clear native trees and shrubs for a park while doctors, chambers, and the parks committee coordinate on funding and development.
The Myrtle Point Rotary Club invites interested persons to an authoritative talk on new Social Security regulations and Medicare by Tam Johanson, officer in charge of the Social Security offices in Court Bay.
Mr Simons directs a summer band of about 100 students from grades 6 through 8. The group will rehearse at 8:30 am in the high school music room and perform at the County Fats parade and later on the base grounds. Students from across the district are urged to join.
Eighty junior age youngsters spent a week at the Little River Christian Camp near Glide during July 18 23. Thirteen came from Myrtle Point Christian Church with Pastor Wes Shultz and three other adult counselors.
Neva Travis 87 a Myrtle Point resident died suddenly at her home Sunday July 31 from a heart attack. Graveside services were conducted Aug 3 at 10 am in Sunset Memorial Park Coos Bay. She was born Sept 10 1906 and survived by her widower James and siblings in Roseburg San Francisco and Medford.
The Rev Carson N Snow Jr will officiate his first service at the Church of The Nazarene this Sunday. Snow and his family hail from Pamper Texas. Local residents were told to bring their own table service for a park gathering after the service.
The Fiora M. Laird Memorial Library invites children to join the Tall Thaber Reading Club to continue reading during vacation. Registration is available at the city library. The library reports over 108 from the Rotary Club for encyclopedias, 27 from Myrtle Point Women's Club for books, and memorial gifts in memory of Chiia Nelson. A trustee fund now allows memorial donors to give directly to the library.
