Death of Hattie Hatcher at 102 in Myrtle Point
Hattie Hatcher died at age 102, longtime Myrtle Point resident. She is survived by daughter Hattie May Geh vee of Eocene, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The Brownson family home at Angorra on Big Creek was settled after the father built a cabin, with the family traveling from San Francisco to Empire City by steamer, then overland to Myrtle Point via Beaver Slough and Coquille River, before reaching Big Creek. Hatcher attended Angorra school and married Hiram Hatcher in Coquille City in 1908.

Date set for Myrtle Point Summer Youth Band rehearsals
Myrtle Point District 41 announced the annual Myrtle Point Summer Youth Band will begin rehearsals Monday August 5 at 9 am in the high school music room. The band, active in the Coos County Fair and parade, welcomes students of all grades. schedules to be given at the first rehearsal.

New state rules require council hopefuls to file nominating petitions with City Recorder Leona Shield by Aug 22 to appear on November ballot. One thousand and three hundred acres of privately owned non industrial forest land in Coos County, Oregon, have been certified by the Northwest Forestry group as a West Coast Tree Farm. Ben E Ma haffy owns and operates the Ma haffy Tree Farm in Coos Bay and was Coos and Curry Country Tree Farmer of the Year in 1973. Certification requires production of forest crops, fire and pest protection, planned harvests to sustain future crops, a management plan, and periodic progress reports.
