Oregon State Fair Sets Stage For Historic Show

Salem promised a vivid start as the 92nd Oregon State Fair opens August 31. Buildings gleam in pastel tones while the 4-H building prepares for its final use by 4-H youngsters. A $300,000 appropriation funds a new dormitory, with work to begin after the long range fair grounds survey. The midway widens to 52 feet, easing congestion, and parking for thousands will be available near the 17th Street entrance and at the Silverton road entrance.

George E. Hamilton Dies in Portland Former Myrtle Point Publisher

George E. Hamilton former editor and publisher of the Myrtle Point Herald died in Portland on Tuesday July 23 reports indicate. He bought the Herald in 1924 published it until 1931 when he sold to the Tuckers services were held in Portland Friday July 26 He is survived by his wife Jane two daughters Velma Vissi and Kathryn Gold and six grandchildren all of Portland.

First Feeder Lamb Sale of Coos County Success

The first producer sponsored feeder lamb sale in Oregon occurred July 22 at the Howard Leatherman ranch in Coquille. Thirty three consignors pooled 2103 lambs for the Coos County Marketing Association. top prices reached 8.20 per hundred weight for white face ewe lambs and 16.75 for another lot. The sale involved grading, weighing, and penning by a large local committee with support from the First National Bank of Portland and OSU specialists.
