Coquille River clearance clears multiple log jams

Erwin Wilberger of the Port of Coquille River commission reported progress on river clearance. Four two-man boating crews cut through jams on the North Fork Middle Creek and East Fork with jams ranging from 100 to 400 feet, and cost near 2145 dollars.

Elks Inaugural Ball Honors Coquille Valley Officers

The Elks Lodge No 1985 holds its Inaugural Ball at the Temple this Saturday evening with dinner in the dining room and dancing at 9 15 PM. The Grand March and officer introductions occur at 11 30 PM followed by the Medford Fuller Orchestra. A stereo hi fi radio phonograph is awarded, and Emblem Club escorts are announced. Dress is semi formal.

White Cane Week Emphasis By Myrtle Point Lions Auxiliary

The Myrtle Point Lions Club auxiliary held a meeting noting White Cane Week May 2-9 and announced a sale to benefit the cause. They will be supported by Rainbow Girls and will run a cookbook sale coordinated by Samore Pee. proceeds fund the tennis court project in Rotary Park. Merchants were thanked for ad support in the fundraiser. Lions Convention plans for Coos Bay June 18-20 were shared. Attendees included J. L. Badon and Dorothy Waldrop.

Spring Handicap golf tournament opens May 2 at Coquille Club

The Spring Handicap tournament begins Saturday at 9 a.m. at Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club. Roy Stein urges participation and notes 10 foursomes expected. Register at the pro shop for pairings and tee times. entry is $2. Trophies awarded to champion, runner-up, and night winners.

Georgia Pacific Foundation selects Ed Wells senior at Myrtle Point high school for the annual 3000 dollar scholarship. Alternate Louise Gearhart of Coquille high is named. Wells plans to attend Oregon State University majoring in science after graduation.

Fire at Rynearson Home Sparks Teasing by Volunteers

A Monday morning blaze at the L. L. Rynearson residence drew volunteer firemen, who teased the homeowner for the incident. Rynearson, a state fire warden, had responders on the scene around 9 30 a.m. The fire caused damage but details were limited in the report.
