Coquille River flood control debate advances in Coos County

William Ruhmann presented a detailed flood control and multiple use plan for the Coquille River system at a county meeting. He urged flood reduction, irrigation, municipal and industrial water supply, and recreation through upper North Fork and Sitkum area dams, arguing the program benefits outweigh costs and noting site feasibility and rainfall data.

Myrtle Point Students Sweep District 5 Garden Contest

Myrtle Point students swept the district level Garden Club District 5 contest and a poster contest with Betty May Qeben winning honors. Club president Mrs. Lloyd Huntley announced the results and noted Myrtle Point took nearly all firsts among 243 entrants.

GP and Douglas Fir Plants Drive 72 Percent UGN Goal

Workers at Georgia Pacific and Douglas Fir Plywood plants reported 72 percent of the Southern County United Good Neighbors goal of 84000 raised, announced by Chairman Al Thelin at a Coquille breakfast on Monday. Ted Cook Hurt In Accident Near Camp Adair

Ted Cook and Miss Nicki Drees were injured Saturday night when their car hit a State Agriculture Ford pickup and went into a ditch near Camp Adair. Drees suffered facial cuts a broken finger bruises and scratches while Cook sustained a broken leg and arm with head lacerations and was pinned in the car until cut free.
