Coos County Fair Queen Contest Opens for Entries

The Coos County Fair Queen Contest welcomes Coos county girls aged 15 to 21 who own and ride their own horse. The event runs June 13 to 15 at the Coos County Mounted Sheriff Posse Rodeo in Myrtle Point, judged by the RQ palm system with horsemanship and pose personality speech scoring. Participants wear blue jeans and a white blouse during competition.

POMA Sets Spring Meet in Powers Near Lost Meteorite

The Port Orford Meteorite Association plans a spring meeting in Powers at the new community park on April 26 and 27. Horsemanship judging is set for Friday night June 13, with six finalists. The queen contest includes a breakfast and speeches, concluding with the queen and court announced June 14. Entries close June 1, 1975.

Cooperative sets annual meeting in Brookings

The sheet FE Cooperative will hold its 37th annual meeting on Friday May 2 at the Brookings Elks Building. Registration starts at 5 p.m. Dinner at 6 30 p.m. is served by the Brookings Gold Beach Emblem Club. Keynote speaker is David A Hamill administrator of the Rural Electrification Administration. Door prizes will be awarded to ticket holders at registration.

Van Viack Named to City Planning Commission

City Council confirmed Ed Van Viack to replace Jack Duan on the Planning Commission at last Monday’s meeting. The council voted for a boat ramp north of Spruce Street bridge for emergency services and schools, and approved a PBS channel addition to the Warner Cable system. Polls by Myrtle Pollat Heratz show about a 50 50 split on PBS addition. City Administrator Jim Howe said Highway Safety Act funding is available to realign Coffee Cup Curve on Highway 42 and improve Stover Lane.

WIC Program Opens for Coos County Residents

Coos County Health Department announces a Federal WIC program for pregnant women nursing mothers infants and children under four with nutritional or medical needs. Eligible residents receive monthly free coupons for supplemental foods at local stores after a health evaluation.
