The School District 41 budget, approved by the budget committee after eight sessions, will go to voters on June 17. The plan includes a 14.5 percent general budget rise and about 12 percent salary increase after reductions from an initial 26 percent rise.
Myrtle Point High School released its nine weeks honor roll with Principal William Richardson noting top students across grades. The list includes numerous freshmen sophomores juniors and seniors with honorable mentions and staff classified employees acknowledged for funding and curriculum support.
Lyndee Leibelt of Broadbent School and Richard States of Myrtle Crest School are honored as local winners in the annual poster contest. About 350 to 400 posters were entered with 44 classrooms across Coos County participating, and county winners advance to the state level.
McNary High School Band from Salem directed by Ms E Hoem will perform April 21 in Myrtle Crest. The group, rated among the top AAA bands in Oregon, will join Myrtle Point High School bands for a morning assembly and an evening 7 30 concert in the Myrtle Crest gym with no charge. Former Myrtle Point graduate Brevin Royer, now in McMinnville, is noted as a music instructor. Lea Simons, music supervisor, recalls Hoeme the horn soloist who played Mogart’s horn concerto during a prior Oregon National Guard Band visit.
A meeting of the Broadbent Translator Association is planned for Friday April 18 at 8 p.m. in the Broadbent Grange Hall.
The city faces a higher assessed value rising from 16.4 million to 17.8 million due to county revaluation and 397 700 in new Myrtle Point construction. The proposed tax rate per thousand true cash value for 1975 76 is 12.69, five cents above last year. A 12 percent city wide raise was approved with a new city administrator and a Parks department upgrade funded.
State officials report proposed gasoline and weight mile tax hikes could fund Highway 42 upgrades. Senator Jack Ripper questions spending scope while Fred Klaboe says funds need not stay on the Interstate system. Gov Otibaub's plan could raise up to 1,000 mil over two years amid a Ways and Means hearing on Highway 42.

The city council adopted a new zoning ordinance at its April 7 meeting after a public hearing and open discussions on allowing double wide mobile homes in residential zones. Earlier a 3-2 vote sent the mobile home issue to a public vote where legal.
