The Bullards ferry began operation with 6 am weekday runs and added evening service to Daniels Creek to serve loggers for about ten more years. Court actions include arrests for vagrancy, property purchases, and a proposal to advertise multiple lots for sale along Coos Bay area developments.
The Coos Bridge Queen contest opens with candidates from Reecaport to Gold Beach selling buttons. Dorothy Bowers, the sole candidate from Myrtle Point, is sponsored by the Lions Club.
The April 26 Saturday night will end the second two weeks period. The top vote getter in the third and fourth weeks will win the second bicycle, with prior two weeks voting not counting toward that prize. The final prizes also include a Ford V-8 Tudor sedan and $200 in cash.
The E Barker Jewelry store unveils a new display tier to expand its showcase. The tier doubles as a jewelry display area and supports a window floor for sporting goods and fishing tackle.
A grade school will hold its commencement on Wednesday May 20 as part of an Achievement program. The day includes 4H exhibits judged in the afternoon and an evening program with songs drills and MM club activities. Eugene Hare, a local attorney, will deliver the commencement address before diplomas are awarded to the eighth grade.
William Neeldeigh has bought Friendly Woods from Turner MacDonald of Port Orford in the West Norway district. He plans to convert the property into a poultry ranch and will move with his family when school ends.
The Townsend club meets Sunday in regular session at Townsend hall with Elder A A Baker as speaker. His talk centers on the classification of Christ and David and Goliath. The program promises to be interesting and instructive. All members urged to attend.
The Royal Neighbors of America held regular session with a 7 o'clock potluck dinner. Miss Hazel Schrader was initiated as a new member and the group practiced initiatory work for the convention set for Marshfield on Monday May 4.
Myrtle Grange opened with 26 visitors including Mr and Mrs Redmond of Fairview and Mr and Mrs Culver of Bridge. Members discussed soil conservation plans, loan bank talk, and dentent control contest while Pomona reported on fire insurance.
Anetier popula couple were married at the Frank Dunger home in Coquille with Rev Harold Mirer officiating. Alde Butler, son of C H Butler of Maple Street, and Mre Mabel Brondell of Wehe were pronounced man and wife. The couple planned a honey moon trip to Eugene and will reside in Coquille. Tutler works for his brother Inelar Walter Barklow on a west Nutway ranch.
Sheriff William Howell announces sales of several properties by foreclosure. Items include 107 acres in section 3 near Bridge Thir sold to Laurence Jennings on February 9 1935 for 2044 12 from Jennings Weekly EL and Carrie Alleen Perrott to Maggie Leatherwood, southeast quarter of section 5 near Rink Creek and Ella Pearl Willey to C W and Elizabeth F Kiine for 1 block in Coquille Heights, Charles and Etta Barklow to George D and Iva Hall for 3000 852 acres in sections 17 and 20 near Catching Creek on Coquille River, Phillips and Hambaugh Realty to EFA and Ethel Turner for 77 five acres in section 36 near McKinley.
James Albee and Earl McDonald of Myrtle Point were returning from a coast trip when their sedan collided head on with a Port Orford roadster south of Langlois. McDonald suffered a right lateral skull fracture. Albee was shaken. Reese Taylor of Port Orford drove the other car and a passenger was badly cut. Ed Gallier of Bandon transported the injured to their home. Taylor was in town arranging details.
A metal grinding stone once used by Aztec Indians was unearthed near Jerome Arizona by Samuel Chandler and is now on display at The Herald window. Chandler, kin to William Chandler of Cement Creek, recently moved to the area with his brothers and shares stories of relics found in Indian ruins and canyon sites.
The Woman's Club of Myrtle Point hosts Pioneer Day next Monday April 27 at 2:30 PM in the Presbyterian church parlors. Decorations by Mrs Elmer Russell and Mrs Roy Garret. Tea polo led by Mrs Thoma Guerin and others. An old fashioned garments show by the Junior Woman's Club, musical numbers, talks by pioneers, and transport and prizes for the oldest attendees.
The Local WCTU met last Thursday at the Broadbent home of Mrs Ervin Nelson with 13 members and six visitors. Mr F H Barr led devotionals and Mrs Marty Druliner spoke on liquor. The group planned to organize a Loyal Temperance Legion soon. refreshments were served. Next meeting will be at Mr William Barger's home on Thursday May 7.
A regular city council meeting at city hall Monday evening with Councilmen Barker Hermann and Sumerlin present adopted an ordinance amending the license fee for fish sales to 9S. A plan will be explained.
Work started Monday on a cement factory 14 by 16 feet on the William Lobdell ranch at Pleasant Point. The structure will follow Agricultural Department grade creamery specs and later gain an extra room. Lobdell, who tests his herd for ugbercull garget and abortion, plans to supply his creamery with milk, then produce cheese and buttermilk, ice cream, and butter once finished.
Miss Esther Katie Guerin formerly of Myrt’s Point is hired by a large Los Angeles store and praised in a caption as the famed race crew member. She won the February Collegienne Handicap Contest prize, honoring her performance in the store’s handicap event.
On April 10 Jan Kelley aged 65 of Powers faced a disorderly conduct charge and paid a 19 dollar fine plus costs. William N Goodnight 37 of North Bend was adjudged the case and taken to Salem. Roy Arneson serves a 50 dollar fine and 90 days in prison for reckless driving issued last week.
The county spelling contest will be held at Coquille on Saturday April 25 The event selects grade champions from third through eighth to represent each grade at the county contest All selections should be completed by week’s end for the competition.
Mrs Tike Cook received notice that her brother Dele Mast of Klamath Falls died Monday night. He was born in this section and leaves friends around Myr. The funeral service will be held at the Norwacy crematory today Thursday at 2 pm.
The Bobcat track team, led by Coach Rickard, heads to Grants Pass May 2 for district qualifiers and a state meet in Salem May 15. Freshmen and new runners boost the squad after a slow start. Softball plans await school decisions with Coquille Bandon North Bend and Myrtle Point agreeing to play.
A list of couples married in April across Coquille Marshfield North Bend Winchester Bay Salem Bandon and Portland. The records show Justice J Stanley Rev L A LaMiller and other officials performing ceremonies at homes churches and hospitals with licenses issued to parties including fothurst Wat son Coque Rauschert Perkins and others.
Vernon Munroe Bright was taken into custody by state police in London on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without a license. He was fined $3 and costs.
MPHS announces the operetta Miss Cherryblossom to be performed at 8 o clock Friday night, April 24, in the high school auditorium under the direction of Miss Evelyn Barnes. The cast includes Virginia Royal as Cherryblossom, with a large list of supporting players and a Geisha chorus. Students selling tickets receive a complimentary ticket for every $2.80 sold.
The Hiland Theater balcony is undergoing extensive repairs this week with new cushion seats, a new type of flooring, and finished woodwork. Manager Auston Dodges aims to give the people of this section the very best in theater accommodations.
Miss Cornelia Clausen of Broad Bend, a sophomore in secretarial science at Oregon State College, has been elected vice president of the Eastern Star organization for college women.
The Scout Committee held a banquet at Hamm's cafe before the meeting. Jesse D Clinton was elected to succeed Elmer Russell who moved to North Bend. Committee members include Jesse Clinton Elton Schroeder L P Linn Edgar Rickard Floyd Summers R W Schaad F D Hollister Marlin Evans John Belfont E C Barker. A court of honor followed at city hall with Richard Kaufman and Donald Brown advancing to first class and George Luthy and Dean Lansing earning five merit badges. Harold Endicott named Scout master succeeding E C Barker. The group has 23 registered Scouts.
Miss Thelma Parry daughter of James Parry of Myrtle Point and Robert James son of Ben James of Bridge were united in marriage Saturday evening at the Assembly of God church by Rev J L Gilson. Only immediate family attended the ceremony. The bride wore a yellow taffeta gown with white accessories and the groom a gray suit. The couple plan to settle in this section.
The Myrtle Bomt High school FFA chapter sponsors a film on Louis Pasteur to be shown at Hiland Theater next Wednesday and Thursday evenings April 29 and 30. Paul Muni stars with Josephine Hutchinson as his wife. Tickets are sold by high school representatives prior to the show.
Myrtle Point High School staff was reelected during a Wednesday board meeting. Dr Victor P Morris, economist and former Myrtle Point educator, will deliver the commencement address. Rev F H Barr of the Brethren church selected to give the baccalaureate sermon at 8 p.m. Sunday May 1 at the Sevenine Church.

A pre-school clinic will be held at the Junior High on Friday May 1 to examine six year olds entering school next fall. Principal Floyd Summers coordinates with Dr and the Junior Woman's Club to ensure all incoming pupils are examined. Parents will have time before school starts to make any necessary health corrections, and more information will be mailed to families.
In Portland a large church ceremony joined Mary Ellen Hartley daughter of Mrs Mary Hartley of Breedbent and Dele R Cowen of Portland. The bride wore white satin with train and veil and carried a bouquet. Rae Hartley was flower girl and Mrr Richard Rouw was bridesmaid. A reception followed at the groom’s home. The couple plans a coast and San Francisco trip then reside in Portland where the bride is with a large real firm.
County Music Festival will be held Friday April 25 at 1 30 p m in the Coquille Community building. County elementary students will sing by grades 3 and 4 5 and 6 with Mary Benson Dunlap of North Bend leading. All attenders to pledge the flag then special numbers by North Bend Junior High Rhythm band Lincoln Coquille and Broadbent schools. The committee includes Carl Morrison Alfa Bang Marie Whobrey Wagner Elma Russell Catching Inlet and Clarence Ellison. A Beak esiteal of temeary ends the program.
A petition was taken in the county agent’s office in the courthouse and at Hjeltie Waymire and Jen Seaye Rome. Mrs Nan Collier of Powers visited Roeeburg on Monday and stayed overnight with her daughter Bre.
