Coos County Fair Honors Diamond Jubilee Theme

The Coos County Fair plans its 50th anniversary with the Diamond Jubilee theme chosen by a public contest won by Mrs Charles Quigley of Coquille. Entertainment includes two entertaining brothers and Susan Raye. Directors approved daily self contained shows and budget plans to improve concession areas. The fair received an American flag and flag pole from the American War Mothers presented by Clarice E. Jones.

Environmental committee named for Bay Area EPA advisory panel

The Coos-Curry Council of Governments approved the Bay Area Environmental Committee as its Environmental Protection Advisory Committee at the April 8 meeting. BAEC members include Nathan Douthit as chairman and Harland Montgomery as vice chair, with other county participants from SWOCC, Myrtle Point, Gold Beach, Brookings, and Harbor. The group will serve as the nucleus of the advisory panel with more members possible later.

Dellenback to Speak at Brookings Electric Co op Meeting

Oregon Congressman John Dellenback will address the 33rd annual meeting of Coos Curry Electric Cooperative in Brookings on Saturday April 24 at 10 15 a m Registration opens at Brookings Marinabor High School with a film at 10 30 a m The meeting will cover cooperative progress and a financial report by Secretary Treasurer Norm Oberst The session ends about 2 p m with election results and the Grange Attendance Award announced by President Philippot.

Myrtle Point stock sale funds new arrow shaft plant

The Myrtle Point Development Corp completed its stock sale raising 37 500 to back a loan to Acme Wood Products for a new arrow shaft manufacturing plant in Myrtle Point. Frank Meldrum announced the result at a Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce gathering.

Forestry tour for Coos Bay sixth graders
