Ernie Allen and Donald Laird vie for a two year seat in Zone 1. James A. Johnson is unopposed for a three year term in Dora Sitkum Zone 2 after replacing Robert Groves. Attendance area committee candidates include Glen Brown Marjorie Rk Laura Laird Melvin Stewart and Mary Ansen with one write in for an Aragu committee member.

Myrtle Point High School presents The King and I next Thursday through Saturday April 22 23 24 under director Harvey Harmes. A 31 member student cast from School District 41 performs in this Rodgers and Hammerstein musical with a two cast lineup and a large ensemble.

Jazz Festival and King and I Show Set for Saturday
The Southwestern Oregon Jazz Festival comes to Myrtle Crest School with afternoon clinics and an 8 p.m. concert. An all star student band will perform, led by clinician Robert Soder from Pleasant Hill California, who brings his high school jazz band. Local schools Marshfield Coquille Reedsport South Umpqua Cottage Grove Thurston Myrtle Point also participate. Soder and his group depart Wednesday for stops in Ashland Medford Myrtle Creek Cottage Grove Thurston high schools before Myrtle Point. The King and I production follows with a large cast and community costumes. Performances start 7 30 p m Thursday Friday and Saturday with a 2 p m matinee Saturday.

Public vote set on MP tax levy
Myrtle Point voters will decide next Tuesday on a tax levy exceeding the six percent limit by 42700 to balance an 851399 city budget. The levy of 121921 funds water system and sewage improvements, street lighting upgrades, a street repaving program over eight years, payroll and debt service, and a new police officer to end overtime for off duty duty. The set levy costs 1076 per thousand of true cash value based on 1970 assessments.
