Myrtle Point To Host 29th Southwestern Band Festival
Myrtle Point hosts the 29th Southwestern Oregon Band Festival this weekend with nine area bands including Brookings Gold Beach Bandon Coquille Marshfield North Bend Reedsport and Myrtle Point. The event features an honor band practice Friday April 21 clinics Saturday morning and an evening concert judged by Ira Lee of the University of Oregon.

Services Held For Donald G. Miller
Funeral services for Spec 4 Donald Gene Miller were held at Myrtle Point Funeral Home on April 17. Born November 23 1944 in Myrtle Point he graduated from Myrtle Point High School in 1963 and served in Vietnam where he was killed on April 7 1967 after enlisting in March 1966. Survivors include his wife Sonya, parents Ike and Miller, grandmother Cora Mulkey and others. Interment was at Myrtle Crest Memorial Gardens with Dean Mason officiating.

School Board Hires Five Teachers for 1967 Start
The district added five new teachers starting September 1967. Aura Adats will teach English and journalism at the high school. Janet Burge joins from Ashland to coach girls physical education and 7th grade, and to help with the school paper. James Walker moves from Saler Junior High to teach English and assist sports, Sherr Hixson begins special education, and her husband Arvie Hixson becomes Industrial Arts instructor at the high school.
