Myrtle Point Soldier Killed in Vietnam Dates Revealed

Spec 4 Donald G Miller 22 was killed in Viet Nam action on April. He departed for service from San Francisco December 13 1966 and joined his unit in Viet Nam after Okinawa hospital treatment. He was a 1963 Myrtle Point High School graduate and the first local man to die in the war. Sonya Miller his wife and Ike and wife notified by an Army officer. Also noted death of Mrs Anna Laura Brotton of Powers April 7 at Sacred Heart Hospital Eugene. Services for Brotton and Lloyd Robinson held April 11 at Myrtle Point Funeral Home with interment at Norway Cemetery.

Honor Roll Lists Two From MP

Belloni Takes Federal Judge Oath in Portland Ceremony

U S District Judge Belloni took the oath at the U S Courthouse in Portland sworn in by Chief Judge Solomon. U S Attorney Lezak introduced him and presented his commission from President Johnson. Belloni replaces Judge East who retired. Judge began hearing cases in Portland Tuesday on a bank hold up case from 1985.

Powers Man Completes Vietnam Tour of Duty

Airman First Class Wiwatowski son of Mr and Mrs Ed Wiwatowski of Powers has returned from a year of service in Vietnam. He was stationed at Bien Hoa Air Force Base near Saigon. He entered the Air Force in July 1964 and will next be assigned to Malmstrom Air Force Base near Great Falls Montana.

Remote Homesteader Dies at 65 in Mast Hospital

Lavenos Berryman Jennings died in Mast hospital on April 10 aged 65. Born September 17, 1861 in Myrtle Point, he spent his boyhood in the Coos Bay area and lived in Remote from 1890 until his death.
