The Myrtle Point High School board of directors and their wives were entertained Tuesday evening by a home economics cooking class led by Miss Margaret Stevenson and Miss Mary Margaret Woodward. The group served a dinner before the monthly meeting, and during the session officers discussed affairs and inspected the new Smith-Hughes class building under construction on school grounds, expected to be completed soon.
The Junior Womans Club held an all day convention in Newport with district clubs from Myrtle Point Bandon Roseburg Coquille Marshfield North Bend Newport Corvallis and Taft. A silver pitcher prize went to the club with the highest attendance and farthest travel for three consecutive conventions, awarded to Bandon for the first time. Guest speaker was Mrs Harold Peterson Oregon State Federation of Wasman clubs president. Myrtle Point attendees included Mrs Waldemar Gurney Mrs Nor reap Morning Miss Margaret Stevenson and Miss Mary Margaret Woodward, who gained tips for the next Myrtle Point April convention.
Mrs. Mary E. Poppe, a pioneer resident, celebrated her 72nd birthday with a Monday evening gathering at her home. A large group of friends attended, bringing gifts, sharing social time, and enjoying cake, fruit salad, coffee, and punch.
A Friday WCTU meeting led by Mrs. R. A. Epperson explored Youth Month activities and proposed two groups the Loyal Temperance Legion for younger children and the Youths Temperance Council for high school students. Attendees included Mesdama George Hall, John Belieu, Mabel Sterling, Ervin Nipon, Augusta Braden, Roy Shull, Henrietta Hon, W. W. Maynes, and others.
Ten forest guards under district ranger Boyd Rasmussen completed planting 2000 Port Orford cedar trees on Eden ridge lands donated by Goos Bay Lumber. This is the largest single season planting in Siskiyou National forest and the northwest region. Tests with poisoned Douglas fir seed aim to establish reproduction and speed reforestation while protecting birds.
The St. Ann parish in Myrtle Point lays the foundation for a new English Gothic style church, funded in part by the Catholic Church Extension Society with 3500 dollars. The plan includes Myrtlewood panels and stained glass inspired by St Monica in Marshfield, seating 100, and a location facing the city park on Second Street.

A Myrtle Point council meeting heard from the Myrtle Point Woman's Club delegation led by Mrs. N G W Perkire about park spring cleaning, furniture repairs, and budgeted maintenance. The panel discussed street, water main, sidewalk, and curb projects with bids, WPA labor aims, and possible right of way changes for Gravelford road improvements.
The Coos County Health association will hold a no host dinner meeting at the JOOF building in North Bend Monday April 29. Sirs Elsie Witchen of Portland will speak and Dr John Simpkin and Dr J Edward Dehne will discuss county health work. Members and districts are urged to attend as the annual business meeting and officer elections follow the program.
Medford Production Credit association held its regular monthly meeting in Myrtle Point at city hall and Myrtle cafe. The 21 members included 15 Cops and Curry farmer associates with Vern Brophey president and Ben Hilton vice president among attending officers.
The Townsend club held a successful pie social and program at their hall on Friday. Rev T J Pryor opened with prayer. performances included piano duets, a harmonica solo, readings, clarinet and piano duets, vocal solos, and readings. Receipts from the auction pie sale reached 32.05 with Walter Laird as auctioneer. 102 attendees, including visitors from Coquille, supported the event to fund a national convention delegate in St Louis.
The Cottage Grove team beat Coquille Valley 39 to 36 in a Sunday golf meet with Milligan scoring 16 pars and two birdies. A return match is set for Sunday April 38 followed by a clubbery tournament on April 21 requiring partners who have never played golf.
Dr. T De La'Rhue of Coquille was the guest speaker at the Lions Club gathering held Wednesday evening at the Myrtle cafe. He discussed a local topic and related issues, addressing attendees and sharing insights from his practice.
