Citizens' Military Training camp to be held at Vancouver Barracks Washington from July 2 to July 31 with an estimated 563 cadets. The program aims to foster citizenship, patriotism, self discipline and physical fitness through military drill sports and games under expert directors. Transportation and lodging provided with mileage reimbursements for eligible applicants.

A large group gathered Monday at the Coquille Valley Country Club to bid farewell to L J Maloney who leaves for Eau Claire Wisconsin after 12 years as a golf pro. Guests golfed, bridged, dined buffet style, and danced to Glenn Neideigh’s orchestra with speeches by local officials.
The Myrtle Point FFA chapter held its annual election and selected officers for the upcoming year. The local dairy cooperative, formed last spring, reports active calf sales including a registered Guernsey bull and multiple heifer and Jersey calves to Bonnanza and Malin FFA chapters. Construction progresses on the Myrtle Point High School agriculture building with Thomas Dixon and son doing carpentry and students pouring the foundation. classes are planned to begin next fall.
A national 4-H dairy foods demonstration contest opens to girls in foods projects. Teams of two work under leaders and agents to present milk and dairy based dishes and drinks. County winners earn gold and silver medals, with the state winner receiving an all expense trip to the National Dairy Show in Harrisburg, Pa., Oct 12 19.
The Portland recruiting station completed enlistments for a second shipment of 66 men in the month. Recruits trained that night for the US Naval Training Station in San Diego California, to undergo eight weeks of training before assignment to vessels of the AT and Newt. One enlistee was set at Onhan Myzile Point.
The meeting of the County Joint points association board of directors is scheduled for Tuesday. L H Pearce and Mecbrzyect are expected to attend after traveling to North Bend for the session.
