Herald Editor Edward Piel Resigns in Myrtle Point

Edward Piel managing editor of the Myrtle Point Herald resigns after one year to pursue part ownership of the Neodesha Daily Sum in Neodesha Kansas. Piel joins Dom Reed former North Bend Sun and News owner in purchasing the Kansas paper and will depart to manage it. a new Herald manager will be named soon.

Negro Spiritual Concert Set at Marshfield High

The Southwestern Oregon District junior and senior high choral departments stage a Negro Spiritual Festive Concert on Friday April 26 at 8 p.m. in Marshfield High School gym Coos Bay. About 1600 choral students from 24 schools in 10 districts will perform with Dr Jester Hairston guest conductor and narrator. Dr Hairston a noted actor and choral director has taught Negro folk music internationally and appeared in films and stage works. The program features two numbers from each school choir and massed spirituals conducted by Hairston and Maireton with lively selections such as Dat Great Gitten Up Mornin and Goin Down Dat Leasome Road.

Myrtle Point Lodge presents 80 year Jewel to Roland Bowers

At an open meeting on March 39 Myrtle Lodge honored past masters. The highlight was the presentation of a Lodge and Grand Lodge 80 year Jewel to Roland C. Bowers the second oldest living past master. Bowers was raised February 153 1919 and led Myrtle Point Lodge No 78 as worshipful master in 1922.

Myrtle Point School Board Bans Life Magazine for Elementary Level

The Myrtle Point School Board ordered removal of all April issues of Life magazine from district 41 elementary schools due to explicit sex content. Newsweek faced similar critique for its April 14 issue but remained allowed at senior high level. The board directed a protest letter to editors and approved several administrative actions.

Trout season opens April 19 across Oregon for 400000 anglers

Oregon anglers will launch opening day April 19 with a long trout season running to October 31. Coast streams and high lakes within national forests reopen May 24, with many spots stocked and expected strong angling overall despite winter conditions. Weather, snow, and access vary by location, with notable prospects at Soda Springs, Piet 1 Reservoir, Willow Creek, Squaw Lake, Fish Lake, Agate, Emigrant, Lake Marie, Loon Lake, Finplire Lakes, Bradley, Smunan Lake, Garrison, and Floras. A PP&L official appointed James C. Watson senior marketing representative for the Cops Bay district. a Driver License Examiner will visit Myrtle Point April 23.
