Three MP Women Vie For Queen of Industry Crowning

Three Myrtle Point women join forty southwestern Oregon candidates in the Queen of Industry contest by the 40 and 8 Society. Proceeds aid handicapped children and nurse training. The winner earns a $500 bond or a Honolulu trip after selling 300 books. Top four receive trophies. buyers can win four $100 sav ings and four $50 bonds.

Water Study Approved By Council In Coos Bay

The Coos Bay city council accepted a completed water system engineering study by Harlan Gessford Erichsen and associates. The report, funded by a planning loan from HUD, outlines a three stage feeder system with a 1967 construction estimate of 1 077 900 and plans for future storage and fire flow upgrades.

Radloff Promoted to First Lieutenant in U S Army

Oil Drilling Off Bandon Shores Near Oregon Coast

An offshore exploration project for oil and gas near Bandon begins this week. About 42 workers operate the Blue Water II, a large floating platform owned by Santa Fe Drilling Co and leased to Shell Oil Co, located 12 miles northwest of Bandon in 60 fathoms of water. A heliport at North Bend Airport will serve as the base, with helicopters shuttling crews to the rig within a few days.

William Keith Bell 39 died March 29 in Myrtle Point. Born August 13 1927 in Broadbent he was a self employed logger. Services were April 1 at Myrtle Point Funeral Home with Rev Gerald Neson. He is survived by wife Connie and children Patrick Conner and Charlotte at home, Rene Davis of North Bend, brothers Milton Myrtle Point Caleb Gold Beach Byron Vancouver Wash, sisters Vernita Barklow June Meade Jerene Salisbury Patricia Parsons all of Myrtle Point. Interment followed at Myrtle Creat Memorial Gardens in Coquille.

Port District Discusses River Debris and Bridge Permits

In March the Port of Coquille River District Commissioners met with issue agencies to curb trash and debris in the Coquille River. Proposals include better debris control during logging and a permit requirement for bridge construction near the stream.

Oregon Motor Vehicle Registrations Rise Across Counties

More than half of Oregon's 1 266 000 motor vehicles are in a six county area led by Multnomah Washington Clackamas Marion Linn and Lane. Statewide registrations rose about five percent in 1966 with Coos County up 2.03 percent to 96 538 vehicles and Columbia Deschutes showing notable gains while Gilliam Grant Lake Morrow Sherman Wheeler recorded declines.
