The Senate Committee for the Highway 42 bond proposal did not approve the measure today. Senator Chapman said a majority supports the bond, and if the committee fails to vote favorably on Thursday the full senate could vote to push the bill out of committee.
Wm Bill Geister a teacher and wrestling coach at Lackamas High has accepted a position as teacher at Clackamas High School in Oregon. He leaves Lackamas this month to join the Clackamas staff.
A 1961 view critiques President Kennedy's foreign aid proposal, arguing the plan favors repayable loans and self-help by recipient nations. It claims most aid would go to nations that assist themselves, while criticizing past aid to dictators and the notion of unconditional grants.
More than 18 000 Oregon women viewed the American Cancer Society film Time and Two Women during a four week statewide tour. In the Ocean Waves route 2694 coastal county women attended along with 355 in Toledo and 280 in Seaside. Salem 800, Hood River 600, and Eugene 620 were among the largest single showings.
A large group of Myrtle Lodge No. 78 AF and AM past Masters were honored at the temple last Saturday for the lodge’s annual recognition. The banquet was prepared by the Western Star ladies and Rainbow Girls, then the group adjourned to the lodge hall where the candidate Wm J Ferns received the Master Mason degree. Past Masters present included Griffin Greer MacKerrow Weed Benniels Elden Brodie Mast Whitaker Dement Whitaker Dodge Summers Schroeder Craven Pearce Miller Davis Bowers Stemmier Dillingham Shull Furman.

The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce and local merchants announced a $100 prize won by J L Hanson who did not appear at the store when her name was read. The next prize rises to $900 or $900 for the drawing at 7 p m on Saturday April 22 with the winner required to be present to collect.
Fire Chief Mitch Myers reports two Edlund house fires from a furnace and a later sleeper fire that rekindled a spark. Damage was estimated at 2000 to 3000 dollars, insured. An ash can blaze near Floyd Oyster home prompted a warning about required screen coverage on cans and barrels.
The Myrtle Point Easter Seal drive raised about $155 according to co chairs Mrs J M Myers and Mrs How ard Rackleff. Local merchants aided the effort while corsages made by volunteers were sold by Pat Cunningham Phyllis Cunningham Jackie Watzling and Cynthia Robinson.
The West Coast Telephone Company relocates the pole line between Sugarloaf Mountain and Kings Creek due to new construction on state highway 42 east of Myrtle Point. The move was announced to the Herald today.
A lengthy rock slide on Highway 42 blocked the road for about four hours Tuesday morning. Traffic was halted as vehicles crawled past and gradually cleared once the slide was stabilized.
The Myrtle Point Chapter of Future Farmers of America will hatch 160 pheasant eggs from the Oregon State Game Commission. After eight weeks, half the brood will be released and the other half kept by the chapter. Hatching is expected May 3.

District 41 held an April 10 budget hearing in the high school auditorium detailing a 68 524 rise driven by admin staff additions and instructional staffing. Armstrong led the step by step explanation noting facility repairs, new positions, and a planned survey of buildings.
Two local proprietors Emma Schneider and Lena Warner of City Cash Grocery at 704 Spruce Street thwarted a 16 year old holding up their store at gunpoint around 10:15 am Monday. They hid cash and alerted a passerby who pursued the suspect until police arrival near Schroeder mortuary.
An election by the State Board of Education will be held Monday May 1 from 3 08 to 8 08 p m to form the Southwestern Oregon Area Education District. The district will cover all of Coosa county plus Florence School District with a five member board elected at large from district residents. Polling places include Coosa county Port Orford Langlois Reedsport Gardiner and Florence school districts. Sixteen directors are listed for the ballot with the top five vote receivers to be elected.
The S W Oregon Regional Science Fair will be held at Myrtle Point High School Gym this weekend with over 180 exhibits expected. Ray Hull and another co chairperson oversee registration from 3 38 p m to 6 30 p m for entrants from Newport North Bend Coos Bay Coquille Powers Port Oxford Langlois and Myrtle Pubat schools. The show opens to the public Saturday 2 p m to 8 p m and projects are to be picked up Sunday between ? and p m.
