At a Marshfield Woman's Club Library Day meeting a guest speaker was announced Miss Ethel Sawyer head of the brewing room at the University of Oregon. The Past Matrons club donated a Venetian blind in memory of Flora M. Laird. Library board members include Mrs A C Chase Mrs Marlin Eva Mrs W E Lundy Mrs Dal King and Mrs H H Thomas. New books listed include The Danube Footsteps in the Air Inside Europe The Road to Folly and several others from multiple authors.
Farmers in Myrtle Point may receive benefits under the agricultural conservation program by signing a farm plan before May 1. A meeting at Myrtle Point High School on Wednesday April 10 at 1 28 pm will explain the program and assist with forms. Similar meetings are scheduled countywide in North Bend Bandon Marshfield Coquille Crus River.
At Monday night’s meeting council members authorized payment of 1800 for sewer bond interest. The marshal outlined drainage work between Spruce and Ash streets as 60 feet of concrete pipe laid and 200 feet of culvert to follow. High school plans to use city tennis courts for 40 students were discussed with public use concerns and posting of park rules.
The Coquille Valley Country Club handicap golf finals reached its final stage after quarterfinals and semifinals. Bill Barrows beat Edgar Richard, Robert McLarrin defeated Clayton Mast, Jack McLarrin beat Louis Felsheim, and George Linn edged Stewart Norton. Barrow then beat McLarrin and McLarrin topped Linn to reach the final against Bill Bernows.
The Myrtle Lions Club met at Myrtle cafe with guests the Myrtle Point Bucks In dependent basketball team which won the district title at Marshfield for a second year The speaker was Earl Spike Sealle of Coquille who spoke on basketball The club plans another community beautification campaign this year with F L Moon chairing and Alden Brodie Harold Stemmiler and Jesse Clinton on the committee Harry Christy and John Belloni were appointed to help with the Boy Scout movement as sponsors
The Hiland theater lists passes in ads this week for eligible recipients who must clip out their name and present it at the box office before Wednesday. No passes will be issued during the week when Gone With the Wind is shown.
Camp McKinley marks its seventh anniversary of the civilian conservation corps with an open house on Sunday April 7. Visitors can observe fire protection trunk trails, forest reforestation efforts, trail and telephone line construction, and planned improvements at Middle Creek campgrounds and a new Cherry Creek airfield.
Newlyweds Mr and Mrs Eijis Wilberger moved into a small house owned by Mrs Birdie Hav at First and Ash streets. Mrs Eddie Miller of Catchingreek recently relocated to Bond apartments on Spracy Street. B Heary and AY moved from N G W Perkins house at Width and Ash to Mrs Bertha Davie home.
E H Norris farm off Gravel Fort road near Myrth Pint begins karakul sheep raising with three ewes and a ram sent from Washington. They plan to expand to about 100 ewes, pelting rams for sale and keeping ewes for breeding, noting karakul hair yields higher value than wool and its jet black color aging to iron gray.
A seminar organized by the U S Public Health Service and Washington State Health Department will run April 15 to 20 in Seattle to train health officers and milk control officials in milk sanitation and the standard milk ordinance. Oregon officials are invited to attend. more information is available from the Washington State Department of Health in Seattle.
Evangelistic meetings at the Church of Christ led by Virgil Halbig and Dr T M White will conclude Sunday night after three weeks of strong attendance. Several converts and reconsecrations reported. Halbig plans to begin further meetings in Sheridan next week.
A state or local note reports that funds provided by law for paying bounties on wildcats have been exhausted for the current year per official notice, limiting any further payouts until new appropriations are enacted.
