Easter services across Myrtle Point drew record crowds with all churches at capacity. The highlight was the Sunrise service at the high school football field, sponsored by Interchurch Fellowship. Oregon Wins $14 Million Federal Unemployment Loan
Salem March 4 Special to The Gazette Governor Holmes announced that Oregon qualified for a 14 million dollar federal loan to bolster the state unemployment compensation fund. Secretary Mitchell certified the transfer to the Treasury, restoring the fund to 40 million and averting penalty tax rates on about 12,000 employers. The state has four years to repay without penalty while the Unemployment Compensation Commission reviews the pay structure to recover the fund’s footing.

Bishop Dagwell to preside at Oregon Episcopal convention

Ray Epperson Dies From Wounds Inflicted by Bull
Ray Epperson aged 64 died at Mast hospital from injuries suffered when gored by a bull at his farm on March 28. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Norway with Rev. Horsell and Rev. McClurg officiating. Interment followed in Norway cemetery. He lived in Coos county most of his life, with survivors including wife Nellie of Myrtle Point two sons Dean of Cottage Grove and Alton of Myrtle Point, eight grandchildren, and brothers and sisters spelling out connections across Oregon and California.
