Ernest Edward Bender died at eight o’clock Monday morning April 2 1937 after months confined to bed in Norway. Born April 23 1878 in Myrtle Point he worked as a blacksmith and truck driver, married twice to Mary Caldwell and Loretta Dennia, and leaves a daughter Nelda now Mrs Fred Durose. Services were held at Myrtle Point with burial in Myrtle Point cemetery. his surviving relatives include Dr Bender of Portland and Mrs Durose of Bonners Ferry Idaho.
The final Farmers Evening School meeting under the Smith Hughes program was held Thursday April 1 at Myrtle Point High School with 14 members. Discussion on Pasture Feeds and Pasture Irrigation Costs highlighted pasture management benefits and rotation grazing. A social hour followed and diploma presentations were made by Paul E Brewer to 14 members, with gifts to Miss Ruth Smith and R W Schaad. The 14 diploma recipients represented Myrtle Point Bridge Broadbent and Norway communities. Average attendance across 10 meetings was 18.
Keith Hoffman four year old son of Mr and Mrs Charles Hoffman was struck by a car driven by Wm Wich Baker of Myrtle Point beyond the Hoffman bridge. Baker swerved to avoid the children and the car went over the grade. The boy was taken to Mast hospital with concussion bruises scratches and severe nervous shock. He was moved home Sunday and remains confined to bed but is improving.
A district gathering of Eaters Star members was held with about 25 attendees from Myrtle Point Bandon and nearby areas. Distinguished guests included Mrs Mytle Peterson Chelan worthy grand mate Gregan Mre Alberta McMurphy Eugene past worthy grand matron Mrs Helen Roberts Cottage Grove grand organist Mrs Hallie Huntington Eugene and the credential committee. A 6:30 dinner at Floyds Cafe preceded a session in the local chapter room with each chapter presenting portions of the work.
Myrtle Grange met Tuesday evening with Master John Carl presiding. Lecturer Mrs Roy Robison presented an enjoyable program and refreshments followed. Next Tuesday April 13 the Pomona Grange will meet with Myrtle Grange. All members are urged to attend. dinner will be served at noon.
Mrs Katie Hermann, aged, died at home in Portland on March 5 1937 after a lingering illness. She and husband Hermann lived in Myrtle Point from 1904 to 1906 and later moved west after marriage. Survived by two children Mrs J R Kenny of Alameda California and Milton Jermen of Portland. Their daughter Dorothy Agnes died in 1903 in a fire. The heart trouble ended her long illness peacefully. The community remembers her as a kind wife mother and friend.

Coquille Valley Masons including Powers Basdon Coquille and Myrtle Point will meet tonight in the Masonic temple. The Coquille degree team comes to confer degrees for local lodge candidates. Refreshments served by the local Eastern Star chapter.

The WCTU Institute of Coos County held an all day session March 30 at the Christian church with devotions, a dry demonstration by Mrs. Phillipe and others showing alcohol effects on everyday items. Mrs. Farr read a plan to raise a million dollar emergency fund to educate the public on liquor harms. Mrs. Orlin Lett sang and several ladies spoke on liquor questions and current news.
Coos County Young Democrats meet Floyd's Cafe Myrtle Point to finalize plans for the state convention entertainment. The group with over 100 members aims to host a large crowd of delegates and visitors, with Friday evening set for final arrangements.
