Walter Spade a Powers resident for 81 years died suddenly at home Monday afternoon after returning from a walk to watch railroad workers. He was born in Michigan and would have been 74 on April 18. Survivors include his wife Mrs Otto Pitcher. Funeral arrangements pending.
Jack Ellis announces a partnership purchase and outlines plans for paint and body work. He operates a filling and debri cation station and carries automotive accessories at the northeast corner of Spruce and Eighth Street.
The Oregon division of the American Cancer Society opened its Coos County drive last Tuesday with a county quota of $2222.85, unchanged from last year. Dr Raymond McKeown of Coos Bay serves as medical chairman and Clarence H. Cox sits on the advisory committee. Harold H Slade of Coosa Bay directs the campaign.
Clayton Mast returned Sunday evening from the Rogue River with an 87 pound chinook salmon. This marks the second large fish Mast has landed in the Agnes area after a 27 pound chinook a week earlier.
A historic frame building dating to 1889 is being relocated from a site owned by the Thrift store. Originally built by N. G. W. Perkins, the home later passed to Thomas Guerin and then Dee Guerin before changing hands to Ern est Schneider. By 1910 the Schneiders and Sid win Gebreeder are noted in its long relocation history.
Nineteen members of the Bobcats club met with police officer Harry Hogue to discuss rebirth as a community oriented group similar to a Junior Chamber of Commerce. They plan a rally dance, seek a quonset hut in Myrtlewood park, and form a Royal Court with nationwide festival plans.
Mrs Ben Nichols chair of the Myrtle Point Red Cross announced March 1978 drive exceeded its quota with cash in nearing $100 of the estimated $100 local share. She thanked Junior Women's Club members and individuals who canvassed precincts in Broad Bend Bridge Sitkum Lee McKinley and Norway.
City Recorder Nick Perkins' court processed eleven fines totaling 181 dollars for the treasury. Five drunks paid 25 dollars each, one disorderly conduct case also 25 dollars, a firearm discharge within city limits cost 960, and three traffic misdemeanor fines were 2 dollars each.
Myrtle Point volunteer firefighters began a series of instruction and training sessions last night led by E. H. Runkle of Corvallis, one of two state instructors. Runkle, a former fire chief, shared modern methods to fight fires with local crews and visiting participants from nearby powers in.
County trapper Vietor Howard captured a female coyote with seven unborn pups after nearly two years of effort. The animal had preyed on Paul Breuer's sheep, causing significant losses before the hunt concluded.
Installation of parking meters in Myrtle Point proceeded with steel posts embedded in concrete and aluminum boxes. The city council plans to set operation start time at next Monday's meeting, with meters offering 12 minutes for one cent and one hour for nickels.
Evening mail service from Myr the Point will depart one hour later starting April 7. Postmaster Ernest Watkins cites updated drop times to 4 30 p m instead of 3 30 p m. Change aligns with Southern Pacific passenger and mail schedule shifts from Coos Bay.

Valley board totals show 3638, chief figures show 8460 total registrations. Mrs Floyd Jackson of Coquille served as clerk for 6 years and eight months until records were merged with Cees Bay. The single office then served the county for the remainder of the period up to Monday.
Coquille Valley Country club members held their annual election at the clubhouse. Veron Estelle was named president and Bob Harrie vice president, with E. C. Brimer as secretary. Members named to committees include Dutch Clinton chairing Membership with Bob Harris Russ Heliman and Lou Heliman, plus Elgin men on the tournament committee.
