Power Failure Across Coos County From Faulty Tree Felling

Power service in the Coos Bay area was restored in about three hours after a fault caused by tree felling disrupted lines. Three repair crews from Mountain States Power worked to repair a damaged pole, affecting Myrtle Point Coquille and Powers. Bandon Jail Fire Claims One Life

The cremation of a body believed to be Harold B. Clark 29 Roseburg occurred between midnight Saturday and 3 a m Sunday after a blaze destroyed the Bandon city jail. Clark the sole inmate was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge. The jail stood on a vacant riverfront lot and only one charred body was recovered. Clark worked for Coen Bay Lumber Company.

Fred A Kruse Named Coos County Commissioner

Fred A. Kruse of North Bend is named the Coos County commissioner to fill the vacancy after J. W. Hildenbrand's death. A Republican, Kruse serves on the North Bend City Council and the North Bend school board with eight years in public service and eleven on the board of education. He previously was vice president of Kruse & Banks Shipbuilding from 1907 until the firm closed last year.

Legion Nominates For Coming Year

Chester Collier was nominated to Post Commander for the coming year at Myrtle Point American Legion Myrtle Post No 38 meeting in the Legion hall Tuesday night. Kenneth Estes was nominated First Vice Commander and Bert Pearson as Post Adjutant, an office he has held for many years. Regular election likely at the first May meeting as floor nominations are in order at the last April meeting.

Myrtle Point Plans April 18 Street Parade and Music Festival

A Myrtle Point school music program will stage a 2:30 p.m. parade through the streets featuring seven to eight hundred participants from the high school band glee clubs choruses and smaller groups. The evening program will host about 260 performers and funds will support the Southern Oregon Music Festival in Ashland on April 25 and 26.

Fire damages Powers District building in early morning blaze

A fire at 3:15 a m Friday in Powers damaged a building owned by James Wickersham between G P Goodling and Jose Shepherd’s barber shop. The south roof and wall burned, water had to be forced through partitions, and debris cleared by Saturday. Royal Neighbor regalia were stored in Moose hall.
