Natal Day convention marks 10th annual Eastern Star gathering

The 10th Natal Day convention of the Order of the Eastern Star was held in this city with large delegations from chapters attending. The event featured a dinner at the Masonic hall, elected officers including Ora McCarty as President, and next year’s site in Marshfield. Doric Chapter of Marshfield presented degree work and several candidates were initiated. A banquet followed with toasts from Adah, Ruth, Esther, Electa and others earning special applause.

Fire Under Engine Room at Myrtle Point Canning Plant

Fire broke out under the engine room of the Myrtle Point Canning Co. plant last Friday at curfew. Marshall Brown rang the alarm. Grover Wilson and Jim Miller acted quickly to enter, pull a hose through the south door, and contain the blaze before the department arrived. Damage was limited but a stronger foundation for the furnace and boiler will be needed.

Obituary: Arthur M. Russell of Coos County

Arthur M. Russell born January 17 1869 in Sterling Minnesota died August 29 1911 at his home on the South Fork near Myrtle Point Coos County Oregon at age 42 years 7 months 12 days He had lived in Oregon since 1888 and in Coos County since 1897 He married Celestia Mier October 14 1896 and had five children Four survive with his wife He is also survived by his father and three brothers and four sisters Funeral services were held at the home last Thursday Rev Thos Barklow officiating He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and leaves many friends in sorrow of his sudden bereavement
