Elgin Chapter Hosts 15th Annual O E S Session at Myrtle Point
The Elgin Chapter No. 24 hosted the 15th Annual session of the Natal Day Association of the Oregon O E S. August 31 1916 gathering in Myrtle Point. Guests included Worthy Grand Matron Dora B Schilke and other grand officers from Portland Coquille North Bend Marshfield and Eugene. The day featured a banquet hall reception a program of officer presentations and a loving cup contest won by Beulah No. 6 Bulah Chapter. The event closed with Auld Lang Syne and the next meeting planned for Bandon by the Sea with Accidental No. 45.

Sells Floto Circus and Buffalo Bill Wild West Champion Shows will exhibit in Marshfield on September 25 with Frank Gotch and Jess Willard appearing. Willard rides as a cowboy and fights in an exhibition. Gotch offers a world conqueror display and a $1000 challenge for five minutes. Two shows at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM feature animal acts, acrobats, and clowns with a free street procession at 10:30 AM to start the day.

Jerry Huntley born August 3 1883 in Gold Beach Curry County Oregon died September 2 1916 at his father’s home near Myrtle Point Oregon aged thirty three years one month He moved to the Myrtle Point area in 1893 and remained married to Biner S Gilbert on October 23 1904 They had five children Roy Verna Lester Berlyna four boys and one girl Vernon died in infancy He leaves wife a father mother three brothers Alva Volney and Edd four sisters Laura I Carter Nettie Lennie and Sarah Huntley and many relatives Funeral services were held at the Brethren church in Myrtle Point on September 3 at 2 00 PM conducted by Elder Thomas Barklow Interment was at Myrtle Point cemetery.
