Korn Karnival in Coquille Praised by Farmers

Last Friday and Saturday in Coquille saw the first annual Korn Karnival praised for community spirit. Vendors, corn displays, and local booths highlighted a civic showcase with Prof J E Larson addressing seed selection and corn growing while Coos County entries won multiple prizes and local merchants featured extensive showcases.

Narrow escape after Coquille Karnival ride ends in wreck

A buggy ride home from the Korn Karnival near Coquille ends with a fall from a hillside turnout. A. J. Mayse and the Enterprise editor escape injury except for Mayse suffering a broken rib as the team toppled off the embankment. C. A. McDonald, C. C. Carter, and K. H. Hansen arrived to aid. repairs used hay wire to fix the buggy. The trio continued toward Myrtle Point, avoiding further mishap.

Land Conference Committee Meets Over Grant Plan

Salem November 18 The land grant conference heard a proposed plan to sell lands and timber at market and conservative values with a per centage split between the Southern Pacific Railroad and the State The plan preserves land for reforestation and offers settlers preferential purchase rights while distributing proceeds to school and reclamation funds Moody for the railroad said the company has no program but would consider a compromise if agreed upon by the conference and ratified later by the company

Dr Leslie Johnson to Move Practice to Marshfield

Physician Jesse G Johnson announces move to Marshfield around January 1 leaving Myrtle Point after seven to eight years in local practice. Myrtle Point Transport Buys Four Boats for River Fleet

Fritz Jaenigen of Myrtle Point Transportation Co. completed a deal with Coquille River Transportation Co. to purchase the stern wheeler Coquille and the gasoline launch Charm. The additions bring their riv er fleet to eight boats including Charm Coquille Dora Maple Myrtle Norma Pronto and Telegraph.

Dr. John Straub dean of the University of Oregon spoke to Myrtle Point High School and Grades at 1:00 PM. He urged students to value education, illustrated its payoff, and explained how a capable student can work through college. The audience listened intently as he praised local schools and hinted at a future return for commencement.

Oregon Standardizes Several More High Schools

State Superintendent Churchill announced that Monmouth district 13 in Polk County Myrtle Point district 41 in Coos County Imbler district 11 in Union County Ballston district 9 in Polk County Culver district 4 in Jefferson County have met state education board standards. A total of 168 four year high schools in Oregon are now standardized with more to come as they qualify.
