City Council Sets 13 Mills Levy For 1913 Budget
At a special meeting the City Council discussed the tentative budget and levy and amended it to a 13 mills tax. The levy includes ten mills for general city expenses and three and a half mills for old warrants and sinking fund purposes. A half mill increase was needed due to lower city assessed valuations from the county assessor.
High Water Closes Rail Lines as Logs Move Down Streams
Heavy rains sent the Coquille River to a high stage last Friday noon. Southern Pacific train 4 did not pass Schroeder trestle, which was submerged with drift wood. Rail traffic between here and Coquille suspended until Saturday as logging trains moved logs from upper streams. Loggers benefited, with thousands of Smith-Power logs freed from Middle Fork and North Fork streams, totaling around 42,000 moved or ready to come down with the next rise.
