Coos County pioneer and early logger in Coos Bay passes away. Born February 16, 1830 in Summit County Ohio, he worked as canal horse driver and steersman before heading west in 1852. He spent years in California and Oregon before settling in Coos River area as a lumberman.

Coquille River Bridge Opens Ahead Of Schedule

The steel bridge across the Coquille River at the Foot of Spruce Street will be finished this week, about a week early. The $27,000 structure uses a 180 foot steel span, a 74 foot concrete viaduct, and an 80 foot wooden section, with western and southern approaches roughly 500 and 460 feet. The County Court will inspect the job tomorrow and residents are invited to join the opening celebration as traffic is diverted from the depot grade crossing.

Open Spring Opening for O. and C. Lands in Roseburg

The Roseburg Review reports that the O. and C. lands will open to settlers early next spring, per Commissioner Tallman. Officials expect a rush and warn that no preferential rights or locator agents will be recognized, with moving to new Federal building offices on December 15 and delays due to steel counters.

Myrtle Point Commercial Club Benefit Plans
