Myrtle Point approves street and cemetery projects and bonds

The Myrtle Point City Council approved about two mayor projects totaling around twenty thousand dollars for street and sidewalk improvements. Block costs ranged from 537.52 to 6,136.00 with a quarter mile of sidewalks to be laid by Dean and Brown. The Bancroft bonding act funds the street work with a ten day window for property owners to apply. The council also accepted the Myrtle Point Cemetery association by laws and will oversee graveyard management with mayor and city recorder as ex officio officers.

Red Cross Auxiliary Reorganized into Branch at Myrtle Point

The Red Cross Auxiliary in Myrtle Point was reorganized into a branch with the same officers, led by Chairman Mrs. W. T. Dement. The executive committee includes Mrs. E. Ge. Drake, Mrs. A. Barnhart, and Mrs. P. W. Laird, with Mr. Gen E. Tonney as Board Chairman. A new cutting table was donated for the workroom, and several new members joined as donations flowed in. The group plans a Friday shipment of 25 pajama sets and will host knitting lessons, with local schools and Miss Anna Thomas contributing gun wipes for soldiers.

New Bridge Formally Accepted by Court Officials

The Coquills steel bridge over the Coquille River was formally accepted by the County Court last Friday, with County Judge Wetain and commissioners Armstrong Philips and Murdock present. Portland Bridge Co completed work early. the structure replaces a rebuilt 1900s wooden bridge that collapsed in a freshet years ago.

Renewed bid to tax war profits in congress
