Public School Program at Unique Theatre Highlights City Grades

A large audience attended the city schools program at the Unique theatre Friday evening directed by teachers and Prof. Park. The program included songs solos recitations duets and instrumental pieces by students such as Edith Helps Louis Lewellen Hilda Nystrom Gladys Warner Katie Brown and many others with final remarks by Supt. A T Park and a joint address on Education in Oregon by a University of Oregon representative.

Memorial Day Memorial Services Plan in City

The notice outlines Memorial Day observances with services May 28 at 11:00 a.m. at the M. E. church and a 10:30 a.m. gathering at Benson's hall for G A R and veterans. Decoration Day May 30 features a 9:30 a.m. meeting, 10:00 a.m. procession to the cemetery, graves decorated, G A R services, and an 2:00 p.m. program at Benson's hall with music and speeches. Public schools join under Prof Park. flowers may be donated at the hall on the morning of the 30th.

Runaway Colts Injure Harry Guerin in Myrtle Point Livery

Harry Guerin was injured when two colts belonging to L. A. Roberts bolted in the Myrtle Point Livery Stable corral. He jumped to the ground as the horses turned and they dragged the wagon, striking his face and leg. Dr. Stemmler attended him. damage to gear was minor and Guerin faced a few days of recovery.

New Oregon Laws Take Effect Including Farm Names and Columbus Day

The latest 261 laws from the last legislature went into effect at midnight last Friday. Highlights include registering farm names, creation of a teachers retirement association, a crime for deserting sheep, expanded polling hours, and the creation of Columbus Day on October 12. Minor and special laws also took effect with volumes sold at $1.25.

Fire near miss at Guerin hotel barber shop sparks alert

A fire discovered in Jack Abbott's barber shop on the Guerin hotel premises late Friday night was contained quickly after smoke filled the second floor corridor. A wooden ash box near a coal heater lit by live coals caused the near conflagration, with quick action preventing major damage. Penny Sturdivant kept a boot-black stand in the shop. Ray Dement and Landlord Guerin helped extinguish the blaze.
