Newly elected Myrtle Point city officials including Mayor W Taylor Dement ex Mayor L A Roberts and ex Councilmen Ben Mullen P W Laird H A Schroeder Treasurer J M Arrington and Recorder E A Dodge take office after the previous council audited bills and adjourned. Dement reads an inaugural letter outlining aims for sewer work street improvements surveys and careful preparation with planned changes in city offices as needed.

New City Council Sets Committees and Routes Upgrades

The newly elected city council organized with J. S. Whitaker as chairman and formed Finance, Police, Ordinance, Sidewalk, and Street committees. Mayor Dement kept appointive officers, while talks continued on Spruce and Maple streets upgrades and a liquor amendment ordinance to be addressed at a special meeting.

The manager A. R. Panter states that once roads between Myrtle Point and Wagner are passable the auto stage will resume daily service with a flexible schedule based on demand. The notice ends with a prompt asking if the printer has been paid.

Bridge School Hosts First Annual District Fair and May Festival

The Bridge school district in Coos County held its first district school fair and May Festival Friday and Saturday. Principal E R Jones and Miss Florence Jennings led events with student contests, athletic trials, and a crowning of Miss Lillian Morris as May Queen. The exhibits showcased strong work in School Work and Art plus Cooking and Baking, with notable comments from J L Smith county agriculturist on corn improvement.

Installation of Pastor in Coos Bay Presby Church

Next Monday evening May 10 at 8 o clock the Coos Bay Presbytery will install Rev James F Vernon as pastor of the Presbyterian church. Rev James S Stubblefield of Marshfield will preach the sermon with Rev Fred Fiman North Bend delivering the charges, Winfield S Smith of Bandon presiding. Members are urged to attend and a cordial invitation is extended for all to come and enjoy the service.

Excursion Marks Completion of Smith Powers Line Opening

A May day excursion drew 400 to 500 visitors to the Smith Powers line site at Powers Oregon. The new depot, drug store and several businesses sit along the townsite as loggers and investors tour the area and discuss future enterprises while construction continues on housing and the roundhouse complex. The line is now a standard heavy-traffic route featuring 90-pound steel and exclusive St. Orford Cedar ties.
