Mid-Summer Races Set for July 2 and 3 at County Fair

Directors of the Cops & Curry County Fair Association announced the 1915 Mid-Summer Races for Friday July 2 and Saturday July 3. The program carries 1160 in purses with events including trots, paces, novelty and motorcycle races, and several running events for Coos and Curry County horses.

Pioneers to testify in Waters-Davis estate case in Coquille

Mrs Waters sues the estate of Bluford Davis for a share of his Coos River farm claiming connection to Davis through an Indian mother. The trial in Circuit Court at Coquille will feature testimony from Coos Bay pioneers about Davis’s early life and relationships.

Humane Sunday and Kindness to Animals Week Observed

Under the American Humane Society of Albany leadership Humane Sunday May 23 will be observed nationwide with services in support of mercy to children and animals. The Oregon Humane Society appeals to churches while May 17 to 22 is set for teaching kindness in homes and schools and promoting humane literature and anti cruelty societies.

The Myrtle Point Schools presented a musical play Enchanted D at the Unique Theatre last Friday evening. A large audience filled the lower floor and gallery as pupils from Chart Class to Eighth participated under Professor C A Davidson and grammar school teachers. The High School Band accompanied between acts and violin solos by Glenn Neidéigh drew encores.

In Coquille the city held elections on Monday. J. S. Lawrence was re elected as city recorder. Councilmen elected were O. C. Sanford S. M. Nosler N. C. Medley and John Hickman. A bonding proposition of 30000 to fund outstanding indebtedness passed 322 to 91.

Special Dairy Show Adds $200 in Prizes at Fair

County Agriculturist J L Smith oversees a new dairy show at the fair with $200 in prizes. Only registered cows from approved farms may enter, health judged by a veterinarian, feed provided, and entries divided into three classes. Prizes include silver loving cup, gold medal, and silver medal for top dairy cows. butter and cheese events offer similar prizes. Prof C G Simpson of Oregon Agricultural College will judge.

Flirtation With Death by Local Bicycle Rider

Louis Starr son of Geo M Starr and assistant at the C B and E station escaped a serious fall when on Maple street the coaster brake failed. He rode off course into old planks near the bridge, was tossed and grazed by splinters in his left cheek yet walked to the depot and returned home with minor injuries.

Seventh Day Adventists from across Southern Oregon will gather in Grants Pass for the Southern Oregon Conference camp meeting May 20 to 30.
