Valley league open game draws eighty fans at North Bend

About eighty fans followed the Valley teams to the Bay for the Coos county league opener at North Bend. The report notes strong play from Our Skookum Fly Killer and urges dairymen with large herds to seek special large quantity prices from N G Perkins.

Memorial Day Observance in Myrtle Point Activities

Memorial Day events in Myrtle Point featured a 10:00 a.m. march from Benson's hall to the cemetery to lay roses for veterans and a 2:00 p.m. program at Benson's hall with band music, recitations, a Gettysburg reading, and an address by Rev. A. A. Baker. Afterward, soldiers scattered flowers into the Coquille river for fallen sailors. Mrs. Bertha Prey Garrett organized the program. Also noted was a local Christian Endeavor Society meeting with officers elected and weekly gatherings announced.

Insect Pest Remedies for Home Gardens Tested in Oregon

Marshfield, Oregon May 29 1912 The Oregon State Board of Horticulture offers timely hints on home garden pest control noting there is no cure all for insect pests. It recommends thorough application of powder or liquid sprays such as a hellebore pyrethrum tobacco mix and lime sulfur with Blackleaf 40 and lead arsenate, plus copper sulfate for slugs. warns against daytime spraying, and advises fall Bordeaux and potassium sulfide sprays for mildew and canker-like disorders.

A pretty wedding took place at the home of Mr and Mrs Chas Adams on Tuesday June 4 at 3 pm. Miss Mabel Adams married Mr Lester Dement with Rev A J Irwin officiating. They will reside in Myrtle Point where Dement works at Flanagan & Bennett Bank.

Coos and Curry Fair Club Elects Directors Race Planned for July Fourth

At a Myrtle Point meeting on June 1 1912 the Coos and Curry County Fair Association organized its board and officers. Directors elected were A E Adelsperger O J Seeley R C Dement J L Knight M C Stemmler T D Guerin and L A Roberts. A race meet is set for July 4 and 5 with a graded course and grandstand construction underway. The speed program lists multiple races with purses from 25 to 100 dollars. Bids are invited for stands and amusements at Gravel Ford celebration grounds by June 12 1912.

Monster log hauled by train to Smith mill

The giant spruce log weighed over eighty tons and measured seventy eight feet long with a seven inch butt diameter and sixty eight inch top diameter. It yielded nineteen thousand six hundred feet of lumber when scaled as five sixteenth foot logs. A. H. Powers doubted any log this size had been hauled by rail before.

City Council Revises Public Square Use and Street Paving

The council held over Spruce street paving decisions to a special meeting next Monday after reviewing officer reports and bills. The May ordinances include second readings for a municipal building on fifth street and city property use. editors and a visiting San Francisco fireman, Jas K Mack, were noted in relation to local work in Curry county and the Redondo voyage to Coos Bay.
