Myrtle Club Plans Fourth of July Celebration

At a Myrtle Club meeting last week a committee led by H. A. Schroeder H. B. Steward and C. E. Huling was formed to solicit funds for a Fourth of July event tied to local races. The program of sports and speaking will be decided after reports. Coquille and Bandon will not celebrate this year.

Ministers Form Myrtle Point City Ministerial Association

The Presbyterian Methodist M E South and Christian ministers met at Rev. W B Smith's home to organize a city ministerial association. W B Smith was elected president and C L Thornton secretary. The group aims to foster church fellowship and address moral issues to keep Myrtle Point a clean city for all citizens.

Benton County School Fair Prizes Total $600

Oregon Agricultural College announces $600 in cash and merchandise prizes for the Benton County School Fair to be held in Corvallis on August 28. Entries are open to all under 21 with separate classes for ages above and below 12. Each exhibit must include a signed statement by a parent or guardian. Exhibits may be shown at Corvallis, then sent to the state fair in Salem. Prizes cover field corn, popcorn, fruits, vegetables, crafts, and baked goods with multiple classes and school-wide awards.

Martia Point Horticultural Society plans a community welcome for Oregon Agricultural College visitors June 16 to 18. A basket dinner and strawberry lunch are planned at Dixon's grove if weather allows. committees are formed for grounds, finance, music, and refreshments. The event includes a branch experiment station discussion and aims to entertain guests from Bridge Horticultural Society.

Pacific Northwest farmers brace for record harvests

Bumper crops and strong prices forecast a prosperous fall for Oregon Washington and Idaho. Wheat yields may hit 70 million bushels worth about 52.5 million dollars with farmer income rising by around 28.5 million. Fruit wool and hops add to a total near 150 million in producer wealth. Oregon Vital Statistics report births and deaths across January February and March 1912 alongside 1220 marriages in the period.

Remains Removed to Eugene and Jetty Light Plans

The remains of John Kuykendahl and his grandchild, buried in the old Masonic cemetery, were exhumed and moved to Eugene on June 4, 1912. Kuykendahl was over 80 at death and an early Kuykendahl progenitor in Oregon. Jetty lights to be installed along the Coquille river bar and inner harbor, with 12 lamps of 200 candlepower each to aid night shipping. Mrs. Jackson Silbaugh, WCTU organizer, will speak at Christian church June 16 at 11 am and at the Presbyterian church at 8 pm, urging support for Prohibition and wider attendance.

City Council Adopts Spruce Street Paving Ordinance

At last Monday’s adjourned meeting the city council read Ordinance No 135 for the third time and adopted paving Spruce Street to Sixth. Mayor Benson has not signed nor vetoed it. Council plans a water rent increase to 150 per month to create a sinking fund, with ordinance committee to draft details.

Red Coats’ Eastside battle ends in shutout loss

Large Bay area crowd missed an engaging game as Coquille beat Eastside 2 0 while North Bend, Marshfield, and Bandon won their Sunday matches. Box scores list Myrtle Point, Bandon, and Coquille with various scorers and a river teams double header upcoming at Coquille.

Coos Pomona Grange Organized In Coquille

The Coos Pomona Grange was organized on Friday June 7 by State Organizer T L Lee Looking Glass with charter members and officers elected for the year. Meetings will be on the fifth Saturday of months with five Saturdays, next gathering in Coos City on June 29 with visits scheduled among local granges.

The Myrtle Point Horticultural Society reports the winter spraying by the county sprayer under O H Robinson was more successful than expected. After finalizing bills, the season will close with a balance in favor of the repair and upkeep account.
