Young Lady Dies After Auto Struck on County Road

Mrs. Flossie Dye dies about an hour after being struck by a car driven by Christian Moler on a county road near Myrtle Point. Coroner rules accidental death. Moler seriously affected, confined to bed. Funeral held at Coquille’s Masonic Cemetery. Dye survived by father James Dye of Dayton Oregon and several siblings. Florence Everal Dye born March 12 1892 died June 9 1916. member of Latter Day Saints.

Newlyweds Ralph Hughes and host celebrate at Strong home

Myrtle Point Chautauqua Opens In Big Tent Today

The Myrtle Point Chautauqua moves to a big tent at Railroad Avenue and Spruce, replacing the planned fair grounds site. The program spans Friday to Tuesday with Junior Chautauqua morning events, concerts by Ionian Serenaders, readings, lectures, operatic performances, and sacred concerts.

Pomona Grange Meeting Highlights Union Station visit

The Union County Pomona Grange annual meeting at the Eastern Oregon Experiment Station in Union featured remarks by Marion L. Carter and welcome by Superintendent Robert Withycombe. C. D. Jewel sent to sister of noted lodge member

Salem Ore July 1 Complying with a request of the county court of Coos county the state highway commission at a meeting yesterday afternoon directed State Engineer Lewis to assume charge of surveys needed to be made in expending 3625000 recently voted by the county for highway work.

Forest officers report Manley Moore Lumber Co testing dynamite to remove tree tops for skyline logging near Fairfax Washington. Headriggers ascend 100 to 150 feet, place sticks of dynamite around 12 inch trunks, detonate to drop tops, limbs removed first. Company holds five year Forest Service contract. Rainier National Forest operation at 4000 feet. previously installed over a mile incline railway for log transport.

Road work and a drying tragedy in Petaluma

L O Tichenor learns his four year old son Leslie Pro drowned while playing near Mrs Tichenor’s parents in Petaluma California. Extension lecturers draw farmers amid haying conflict

Farmers, ranchers and dairy men gathered at Dixon grove to hear Prof. R. R. Graves of the Dairy Department and observe limited hay and fodder displays. J. M. Dickson of Shedd joined from Oregon to represent the American Jersey Cattle Breeders Association. Anson Bros. of Arago showcased hay varieties while others presented ensilage from last fall and mixed clovers.

The Knights of Pythias Excursion, open to all, will offer a low round trip fare via the Southern Pacific. A special train will depart Coos County for Portland on Monday July 31, with return by around August 10 during the K of P Conventions.

A Medford based box factory plans to grow from 5 000 to 8 000 capacity by year end and install a new PY and E railroad spur to improve distribution. The project aims to boost output and streamline shipments.

M. G. Pohl notes a receipt in January 1872 showing $2.60 state county school and poll tax and $2.40 sheriff fees for collecting the original tax. He recalls only property owned then was a hunting rifle. The document highlights higher tax and fee levels in 1871 Oregon.
