Prescription Nuisance Sparks Oregon Inquiry

In Salem Oregon December 29 a question is raised whether physician prescriptions for whiskey qualify as valid prescriptions. Governor West was asked to decide and District Attorney Brown of Roseburg is tasked with investigating what lawmakers call a dry territory harvest. Copies show one physician using printed forms to rush prescriptions avoiding handwriting.

Montgomery Building Fire Grips Marshfield Waterfront

Five shops in the Montgomery building on Marshfield Front Street were ruined by a Monday morning fire with water damage estimated between 25 000 and 40 000. The blaze started above Solomon Lando's store and took about an hour to control with two city engines. Affected businesses included Lando dry goods Sarter confectionery Quartermass photo gallery Stafford candy factory Pullman saloon and Larson household goods. only insurance noted was 700 on Sarter s Soda fountain.

Marriage of A J Hayes and Charolette Baker in North Bend

Mr A J Hayes and Miss Charolette Baker wed Christmas day at the bride’s grandmother Mrs Chas Eckhoff home in North Bend. Rev D A McLeod officiated. Attendants were Harrison Hayes and Charolette Rooke. Thirty eight relatives attended the dinner and the couple will reside on the groom’s ranch on the South Fork after a short wedding trip from North Bend. The Enterprise extends best wishes. The steamer Fifield sails from Bandon for San Francisco at 6 00 am Saturday January 3 1914.
