Tax Law Amendment Aims to Centralize Tax Collection

Senator I S Smith frames a plan to place county tax duties under the county tax collector with liens on property after January 1 each year. The reform would end sheriff led delinquent collections and require notices to taxpayers instead of newspaper lists. Taxes would be due in two halves with penalties and property sales for nonpayment, to improve clarity for buyers and reduce costs.
