A meeting in Medford pledged a sugar beet factory costing at least 600000 dollars if 6000 or more acres of beets are contracted. Utah businessmen joined 500 ranchers to back the project and seek secured acreage for the plant.
The article notes the importance of general crops for forage hay and grain as the farm’s backbone. It explains that C A C short course lectures are arranged so farmers can learn about general crops without missing regular livestock, dairy, fruit, or poultry studies. Dairy awards went to Hazlewood and Jensen creamery companies. Oregon dairy group also met, electing O B Neptune of Albany as president.

Coquille December 16 Judge Coke of the Circuit Court dismissed the City of Bandons cases against J W Coach and John Herron for insufficent evidence. The men had been convicted by Recorder Kausrud on liquor charges involving minor girls but appealed. The judge stated the prosecution failed to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt and did not submit to a jury.
State statements indicate the Roseburg to Coos Bay line will start next spring using 500000 in city bonds. The Roseburg railroad committee plans about 15 miles of electric railroad, later to be absorbed into the Oregon Electric system linking Portland and Coos Bay.
C H Southmayd died December 14 at his son Frank’s North Fork home after a 15 month illness. Born October 15 1845 in Milton Massachusetts he moved to New Hampshire and later to Humboldt California In 1890 joined Grizzly Bluff Presbyterian Church and in 189? moved to Myrtle Point He leaves wife Ella Dowerman son Frank E two other children five grandchildren and siblings in the east Funeral services were held at the Frank Southmayd home with Myrtle Point I O O F and local clergy in attendance Card of Thanks thanks are given to friends and neighbors for help during the illness and death
The Christian church hosts a Tuesday night program December 22 featuring Mother Home and Heaven items. Mr and Mrs Webb perform songs and readers provide recitations and speeches with local talent contributing. Tickets cost 10 and 20 cents in advance, 15 and 25 cents at the door.
C A Smith and his son Vernon Smith visited from Marshfield with Arn Mareen and A H Towers to inspect operations in South Park. Vernon Smith and Mareen returned to the Bay the same day while C A Smith stayed at the camps with Mr. Powers until Tuesday evening.
Detective Mitchell brought Peaslee from Washington on suspicion in the Myrtle Point bank robbery. Judge Coke, with District Attorney Liljeqvist and Deputy Sheriff Gage, ordered his release after confirming no evidence linked him to the crime.
Portland forecaster reports a new federal appropriation of 100000 to destroy wolves coyotes bears and other predators. The plan pairs Biological Survey work with Forest Service aid to reduce stock losses nationwide, with Oregon Wool Growers calling for 300000 more to achieve complete extermination.

The second floor of the McCloskey building housing the Myrtle Club and the former Benson's Opera House on the Bank of Myrtle Petit premises are undergoing remodeling to create office suites.
In a fast contest at the Oaks last Friday Myrtle Point High School boys hosted Norway. Norway led 14 to 16 at the end with Clinton scoring field baskets and foul shots while Brown added four field goals. Elton Spires paced Myrtle Point with three field baskets and Floyd Wimberly added two in the second half. Norway schedules Eastie at McCloskey Hall next Saturday.
The Christmas Cantata will be presented by the Latter Day Saints Sunday school on Christmas Eve. Roles include Santa Claus, Santa Claus Workmen, Pompon, Skip, The Family Father and Mother, and children led by a chorus of youngsters. The cantata comprises three scenes: outdoor play, home, and Santa Claus workshop underground, with specials between acts.
The Christian Church reports the best attended revival yet with three adults added. Services run each December evening with Brother and Sister Webb leading the sone and stereptium readings. Regular hours remain for next Lord's day including Bible school at 10 a.m. and evening sermon at 7:30 p.m. Endeavor meeting at 6:30 p.m. urged attendance and truth-seeking.
