First Train Crosses New Coos Bay Bridge at Marshfield
The first train crossed the new Coos Bay bridge today, coming from the north into Marshfield. Work crews under W. G. Hindmarsh completed track laying across the span, and the draw span will have an attendant in charge. The work train will base in Marshfield as rails extend toward the Umpqua River.

High School Entertainment Aids Quiller Arnold Bill
Last Thursday the High School staged an entertainment to raise funds for Quiller Arnold's medical bill after an on field accident. The school felt responsible and covered the costs, with Sulller bearing the brunt. Mr. Schroeder of Unique Theatre organized the event and donated four reels of pictures and an orchestra. The school thanks him for his generosity.

Dunne Outlines Southern Pacific Stand On Oregon California Grant
Portland December 11 Peter I Dunne chief counsel for the Southern Pacific explains the land grant terms and SP rights. He says sales must be to actual settlers at 2.50 per acre and SP owns land in fee simple but must follow grant terms if selling. Congress has no authority to impinge SP rights. Supreme Court called for legislation to clarify grant terms. If Congress acts otherwise SP has no current plans.
